If we ignore the Eternal President Kim Il-Sung, Casto had 16 extra years of power over Mugabe, who is old but came late to it. Paul Biya of Cameroon is only 83 and needs under 11 years to top Castro.
Personal favorite Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea who kicked out his uncle in 1979 is only 74 and needs just under 15 years. Same for Jose Eduardo dos Santos of Angola who is also 74. Both have been in power a few months longer than Mugabe and are much younger.
The two guys outside of Africa with a shot at Castro's title are Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan if you include his time as head of the Soviet Republic, he needs 20 years and is 76. A better shot is probably Hun Sen of Cambodia who needs 21 years but is only 64.
