Bill wouldn't make it out of the primary today, unless his only opponent was Bernie or some shit.
There's an argument to be made that Bill might not have made it out of any other primary.
1992 became a perfect storm for both the primary and general.
Tom Harkin couldn't win a non-caucus. Bob Kerrey could only crack 15% in a single state. Both bolted before Super Tuesday. Paul Tsongas ran on balancing the budget, cutting the out of control debt, capital gains and corporate taxes while raising middle class taxes, and had basically no campaign money despite having been in the race since April of 1991 and was out a couple weeks later. That left Jerry Brown as his only competition with his flat tax, 1-800 number, term limits, abolishing the Department of Education, and maybe the only thing helping him against Clinton, opposing NAFTA. And Brown had entered late and refused to accept any donations over $100.
Four years earlier Gary Hart, the frontrunner since 1984, had to bail out on an accusation, before he got back in the race and then bailed out again when the photos came out. Biden dropped out over the plagiarism in a single speech the day of the first debate.
