Not to mention the Bernie people would be in federal prison or worse after being exposed as Russian agents as part of Hillary's widespread crackdown on those who dared oppose her.

not likely to have rampant regulatory capture at every level of government
sure, jan

This, would not be happening in any comparable realm under Clinton.

You would get the usual pragmatic liberal governing team of a slightly better class of Goldman Sachs alumni(compared to Trump/establishment Republican guys), some olive branch appointments to court moderate Republicans, a handful of fuckwads but mostly just qualified people for the job that will go along with a moderate progressive ideal for their departments. It would look like Obama 2.0. Which I think is a major step up from what we have.

Why yes, I would prefer an actual human being as president with a liberal supreme court than having the worst example of a politician and man as "babby's first prezident," hurting our political system and our relations abroad.

oh I forgot, hillary is a bitch or something, nevermind I take it all back

She's a psychopath of the highest order, a garbage human being that strongly lobbied for and succeeded in arming and funding two civil wars in Libya and Syria, creating untold human misery and death and as secondary results of that the further radicalization of Islam that practically birthed ISIS and a huge immigrant crisis that right now is emboldening the far-right in Europe. It's an endless domino effect of horror, radicalization and death.

And with this I'm out, I only wish this forum had downvotes to witness the butthurt. Fuck that cunt and anyone who defends her.

Hillary isn't that much worse than the average Democrat and gets all the blame because people find her unlikable (and some of that is because she's a woman) and the party/liberals in general don't want to reckon with the failings of the Obama administration. If you think she was bad in the 90s, wait until you hear about Joe Biden

also Jack Remington is gonna annihilate you fuckers

Then again, the more I think about it...would you rather have Hillary for one term, under the assumption she got 2 SC justices (Scalia replacement, as well as RBG replacement), or our Current Timeline where it looks like Trump is fucked, republicans are going to lose a lot of seats, etc etc?

Trump replacing RBG is a nightmare.

Also true. Hillary and the way the Democratic bench sort of just cleared her a path is the root of the problem.

It’s been clear since at least 2008, that Hillary is deeply divisive nationally, and to some extent within her own party. IMO, if the Republican Party was not a complete and utter mess, she really wouldn’t have had much of a chance even in 2016.

If she had one, and Dems made gains in the house/Senate, this would have been sort of like a 4 year rebuilding cycle for tge republicans. Maybe they come out the other side as simply lawful semi-evil instead of chaos demons.

We get two Supreme Court justices and maybe a Republican Party that is somewhat less awful that doesn’t warn people instant side-eye when you find out they voted for them.

Theoretically, that could be preferable to the anti-trump awakening in some ways.

To be fair, Hillary Clinton was very popular as SoS. Her numbers tanked after Benghazi and the partisan fuckery that followed.

That being said...despite her numbers looking really good for years I still think that there's a certain partisan disdain/anger that is baked into things, no matter what. So while people may have liked her as SoS, I think you could argue that when political bullets started flying, people would retreat to their tired, original positions on her.

Basically the idea of "Clinton fatique," and something Obama talked about a lot in 2007/2008.

was carter a good president?
absolutely not, he was history's greatest monster, just look at this parade of horribles:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_Carrier_Act_of_1980
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depository_Institutions_Deregulation_and_Monetary_Control_Act

he also started decontrol of oil prices and launched the antitrust suit against AT&T, just horrible

thank god Reagan came along to save capitalism by ending the Cold War by ordering Gorbachev to tear down the wall or there would have been no light after the Carter Darkness

Quote from: President Jimmy Carter
I am confident that efforts of executive agencies to carry out this order will be matched by similar efforts on the part of the independent regulatory agencies. Many commissions are already well on their way in this regard. The Federal Communications Commission, for example, has just completed their rewrite of regulations that affect millions of CB radio owners. Here's a line from the old version:
"Except as provided in paragraph B of this section, applications, amendments thereto, and related statements of fact required by the Commission shall be personally signed by the applicant, if the applicant is an individual."

Instead of that gobbledygook, the new version says: "If you are an individual, you must sign your own application personally."

This is an example of the kind of change the Executive order is meant to encourage.

Quote
The following actions shall be taken to facilitate Presidential Proclamation of Pardon of January 21, 1977:

1. The Attorney General shall cause to be dismissed with prejudice to the government all pending indictments for violations of the Military Selective Service Act alleged to have occurred between August 4, 1964 and March 28, 1973 with the exception of the following:
(a) Those cases alleging acts of force or violence deemed to be so serious by the Attorney General as to warrant continued prosecution; and
(b) Those cases alleging acts in violation of the Military Selective Service Act by agents, employees or officers of the Selective Service System arising out of such employment.

2. The Attorney General shall terminate all investigations now pending and shall not initiate further investigations alleging violations of the Military Selective Service Act between August 4, 1964 and March 28, 1973, with the exception of the following:
(a) Those cases involving allegations of force or violence deemed to be so serious by the Attorney General as to warrant continued investigation, or possible prosecution; and
(b) Those cases alleging acts in violation of the Military Selective Service Act by agents, employees or officers of the Selective Service System arising out of such employment.

3. Any person who is or may be precluded from reentering the United States under 8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(22) or under any other law, by reason of having committed or apparently committed any violation of the Military Selective Service Act shall be permitted as any other alien to reenter the United States.

The Attorney General is directed to exercise his discretion under 8 U.S.C. 1182(d)(5) or other applicable law to permit the reentry of such persons under the same terms and conditions as any other alien.

This shall not include anyone who falls into the exceptions of paragraphs 1(a) and (b) and 2(a) and (b) above.

4. Any individual offered conditional clemency or granted a pardon or other clemency under Executive Order 11803 or Presidential Proclamation 4313, dated September 16, 1974, shall receive the full measure of relief afforded by this program if they are otherwise qualified under the terms of this Executive Order.

Carter also issued 534 other pardons. In just four years. With the most not being right before he left office.

Reagan pardoned 393, Bush 74, Clinton 396, Bush 189 and Obama 212. 36 of HW's, 288 of Clinton's, 76 of W's and 148 of Obama's came in their last year.

Carter really ought to get similar flak for neoliberalism that the Clintons do, but the Clintons have been relevant national political figures in a way he hasn't so I guess it makes sense.

Plus perceptions of former presidents are all goofy anyways.

Carter claims Ted Kennedy killed his universal health care bill along with some others so Ted could use the failure against him when he challenged Carter for the nomination. So evil Carter denied us free health care forever just to spite Ted by running for re-election instead of granting Ted his rightful place in history.

The bastard Carter also was the first to order the State Department/etc. to consider foreign nations human rights records. Thankfully Reagan and everyone since have ignored this foolishness.

Do people really not know ISIS has been around since 1999? It's not like it just popped up out of the blue in 2014 because of Hillary and Obummer. It started as Jama'at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad in 1999, became Al Gayda in Iraq in 2004, then Islamic State of Iraq in 2006 after various mergers and other name changes. And it started in JORDAN, not Libya or Syria.

Read a book, morans.

Optimus isn't exactly what I would call a strong thinker.

He's basically what I imagine a person that's entire political ideology was formed from Ron Paul foreign policy clips and years of listening to Chapo Trap House while huffing duster.

Trump is encouraging The Mooch to keep attacking Kelly on TV  :lol
Quote
The President has emboldened Anthony Scaramucci, the boisterous former communications director who was fired after just 10 days, to continue attacking White House chief of staff John Kelly during his cable news appearances, a source familiar with the situation told CNN.

In multiple television segments, Scaramucci has faulted Kelly for the "terrible morale" in the West Wing, at times referring to him as "General Jackass" and suggesting he apologize for his handling of the Rob Porter resignation. According to this source, the President is aware of Scaramucci's criticisms and has not discouraged him from making them. Sources familiar with his thinking say Scaramucci is frustrated with Kelly because he has limited the former communications director's White House access.

Define defend though, I don't recoil from his thoughts and writings, and occasionally he puts out ideas I find intriguing or having some merit, even though they often just reflect some co-existing academic work going on at the moment he's riding off of, but I don't really seek the guy out or go to bat for him.

Read a book, morans.

lol and I'm the pedantic cunt? Sure buddy, and the Mujahideen were there before we armed and trained them and the Saudi tribes were there before the British made them rich and gave them control of the oil (aka gave themselves control of the oil). Based on this logic the entire Middle East clusterfuck is totally not the West's fault, these things were all there before!

i don't think the "queen" part of the "yaaaas queen" thing was entirely serious even by the Peter Daou and PoliGAFfer types

Putin defeated in Vermont, Russian bot-net can't overcome democracy
Quote
The stepdaughter of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont has lost her bid to become mayor of Vermont’s largest city, the same city where her stepfather launched his political career.

Carina Driscoll, a former state legislator, lost Tuesday’s election for Burlington mayor to the incumbent, Miro Weinberger. This will be Weinberger’s third three-year term as mayor.

Driscoll, who ran as an independent, claimed on the campaign trail that Weinberger, a Democrat, catered private investors instead of advocating for the voters.

However, Driscoll’s campaign was surrounded by controversy early on.

She was slammed for payments her business received from a college her mother used to run.

According to a report, Driscoll’s Vermont Woodworking School received $500,000 from Burlington College between 2009 and 2012. Her mother, Jane O’Meara Sanders, was president of the college from 2004-2011.

Unless “Woodworking School” is a euphemism, this is way too boring to count as a scandal in 2018. :snore

Sessions lawsuit against CA kind of makes me a bit less bitter that at least part of 10 percent of my income is going to be used to troll trump. Where you at shills? Put your money where your mouth is. YAAAASSS
