The part I don’t get is the flow from Trump is elected, I’m afraid for my safety now, I need a gun -> join the party of Trump because they’re more supportive of gun rights. Trump isn’t a one-off. He’s just the id of around half the party. Most of the other half is fine going along with his shit too. It’s not one thing. It’s not just guns.
I now realize the fear of Trump was overblown and hysterics. However I still value self defense. 1 in 6 women are raped or had rape attempts. I find it a right to life situation and many Democrats openly do not support it and are for gun control which historically limits black gun ownership. Looking at the most liberal states’ policies - such as California - show me that their laws in cities like the Bay Area and LA where their gun laws mostly benefit rich white men. Speaking of right to life, I’ll be confirmed Catholic this Easter. I’ve always been kinda of on the side of pro-life because of abortions role in eugenics and black genocide. But I’ve always been pro-choice. I held on to that for a long time but the more I learn about abortion the more I come to a pro-life position. Plus, it helps black people which is my main prerogative. Yet I can’t take this position as a Democrat. After the 2016 election I no longer have faith in the Democratic Party to lead. I also feel taken for granted. Economically we have seen what it over taxation, fiscally liberal policies do for black people. Black leaders voted overwhelmingly Democratic. It hasn’t worked out for us.
My main goal politically is black independence. I no longer view the Democratic Party as a friend to black people. They say they are, but their policies and general language indicate otherwise. On the other hand, you’ve got Republicans who have a communication problem among black people, but I do think some of their policies might help the black community. Democrats have had 50 years and yet we are in same place we were in 1968.
In an interview for her book The Loneliness of Black Republicans, Leah Wright Rigeur highlights what it takes for a black person to vote Republican.

Obama isnt black but African? Historically black meant colored or negro, which meant slave. Racially, Africans are black. But when we speak of black Americans we are speaking of an ethnicity of a race, not a race at large. It’s similar to Latinos. One problem is a thinking that all black people are the same. And if all black people are the same, then black people are expendable. If black people are expendable then you’ll have an entire segment of black people on the sidelines. You’ll have: 1. The descendants of slaves and 2. The descendants of well off immigrants intermingling and considered as having the same history, the same culture, the same values. When all of these things are different.
There’s currently a thing happening now where often they’ll describe the person as black - just merely black. So for example, kid gets into all Ivy League schools. Upon inspection you come to find that the kid is an African immigrant and they don’t separate between the two. The problem with this is that many African immigrants get university aid for things that were originally made for black students - descendants of slaves. Therefore, they reap and benefit on our sacrifice and are treated literally as the same. Further, when Africans are considered just black, you have a thing where a giant portion of black students in American colleges and universities are actually from another country. I shouldn’t have to spell out the problem with equating two peoples as the same when one fought, bled, and worked for in their own nation for rights and have immigrants come and benefit from it and be treated as if they have the same exact history. This makes black Americans a replaced race.
It made purely to show the difference in our values and culture. Obama is black. But he’s not
black . This is also important for genealogy. How does one get reparations if we are all the same? Thankfully in the 2020 census they have the good foresight to separate black people by ethnicity and origin.
The best medium is finding middle ground and alliance with the Africans and for it to be acknowledged that we are different people who share similar physical features - and even that’s to debate due black Americans more mixed race nature.
Nuance.
