After the comment, some Turning Point campus chapters signed a letter calling on her to resign.In her farewell post, Owens cites the “#BLEXIT movement,” her self-titled podcast and upcoming book as reasons for stepping away from the position. Owens also assured her followers that she would still be associated with the organization's events. “I will of course still be speaking at all Turning Point conferences and will continue to chair the annual Black Leadership Summit in the fall,” she wrote. “... I want progressive policy. I'm an activist. It's what I fight for every day. But I think the first step to putting forth progressive policy is winning the election. Let's nominate the person who can beat Trump and then fight for policy when it won't fall on oppressive ears. Are we getting progressive policy passed now? Nope. And without the senate majority and the Presidency we won't. Let's focus on winning. Once we win, let's pass policy to help all Americans live a life of dignity.
