They're using it because it's the last CNN poll. There's been three Iowa polls since then, two from the same pollster, not 15.

I'm out of the loop. Who are you guys rocking with? Personally I'm just gonna vote for whoever wins the nom...not really impressed by anyone right now, and question whether any can beat Trump which is all I care about. Biden seems like the safe pick, then again there's no telling what fuckery Trump's camp has on him. Not to mention the fact that he can't raise money and can barely speak for 2 minutes without some type of error.

I'm throwing my support behind Whoever Wins Will Be Stymied By The Senate Before Losing The House In The Midterms And The Next Two Decades Will Be A Rearguard Defense Against Activist Republican Judges 2020.

edit: and if they get knocked out my second choice is A Democrat Will Get 5-6 Million More Votes Than Trump And Still Lose. They're both strong candidates though.

That's what I thought 2017/2018 would be, with President Hillary. The real irony would be Warren winning, keeping the House, winning the senate and suddenly seeing Obama's critic in his shoes determining whether to blow everything up or right the ship (no pun intended).
spoiler (click to show/hide)
[close]

In the lead up to the primaries I assumed Biden would be formidable. But seeing him...yikes. Policy aside, frankly I don't really care about that right now. As a candidate, whether on stage or wherever else...he sounds terrible and looks terrible. Yet every time I think "well that debate is gonna screw him over"...nothing touches him. Maybe this is like the dem version of the 2016 GOP primary where we constantly thought "lol Trump is finished now." Nothing matters. He's got older voters and black voters...and with younger voters split...he clearly has a path to the nomination. Then again if he loses Iowa his aura of inevitability will end, and maybe that's when the fall will start. Who knows.

End of the day...

 :trumps

Almost like brown people tend to social conservatism. Wait till you hear them talk about endogamy.
The less assimilated the group the more they shun marrying out of one's ethno-religious-tribe group.

Family/relative wise, marrying out of your caste/tribe became less of a deal I've noticed over the years. They've liberalized, slightly. Religion-wise they've opened up slightly depending on the religions involved but frown upon crossing racial lines  :lol

It's also gets weirder in more instances. Like you'll get them deciding to vote collectively as a group over an issue. Like my dad and a bunch of buddies agreed to vote Liberals because Trudeau and no one else was willing to fuck with Quebec on the religious articles thing they are trying to pull. Despite being Sikh they disliked Jagmeet for the not going to bat for religious rights bit.

Today’s politics are too toxic, mean and divisive. People are too quick to demonize and dehumanize, too ready to dismiss all that we have in common as Americans.

That’s beneath us as a country. It doesn’t reflect our values; it’s not who we are. That’s why, since I first declared my candidacy for president, I’ve said: I’m running to restore the soul of our nation.

I first learned those values growing up in a Catholic, middle-class family in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Claymont, Delaware. I learned them at my father’s dinner table, at Sunday Mass and at St. Paul’s and Holy Rosary Elementary. The nuns there taught us reading, writing, math and history — as well as core concepts of decency, fair play and virtue. They took as a starting point the teaching from the Gospel of Matthew: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

My whole idea of self and family, of community and the wider world, stems from those lessons. They drilled into me a core truth: Every single human being deserves to be treated with dignity. Everyone. The poor and the powerless, the marginalized and vulnerable, the least of these. That has been the animating principle of my life and my faith.

Scripture is clear: It’s not enough to just wish the world were better. It’s our duty to make it so.

And when my father would remind me, again and again — “Joey, there’s no greater sin than the abuse of power” — I knew: It’s never enough to just abhor or avoid the abuse of power; you have to stand up to end it, wherever it’s found.

That’s what first drew me to public service decades ago — during the civil rights movement, when Americans of all faiths were called on to put our values into action, to fight the heinous abuse of power that is segregation and bigotry.

It’s why I fought to pass the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 — to confront the domestic violence that so many back then tried to dismiss as a “family matter,” and to instead give survivors a voice and a path to justice and recovery.

It’s why I’ve always stood up for working families — for a higher minimum wage and for family and medical leave; for unemployment, overtime pay, collective bargaining rights and workplace safety.

For me, leadership — and basic human decency — has always meant confronting the abuse of power, and fighting back against anyone who exploits the vulnerable for personal gain.

By ripping children from their mothers' arms at the border and holding asylum-seeking families in cages indefinitely; by fanning the flames of hate and violence at home; by embracing dictators abroad who repress their own people; by threatening hardworking families’ health care and food assistance, while giving tax cuts to big corporations — President Donald Trump is dimming the beacon of hope and justice that we’ve always been as a nation.

In 2020, we must decide: Who do we want to be?

My faith teaches me that we should be a nation that not only accepts the truth of the climate crisis, but leads the world in addressing it. Pope Francis is right in “Laudato Si’”: “Never have we so hurt and mistreated our common home as we have in the last two hundred years." As president, I’ll launch a $1.7 trillion clean energy revolution to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, creating 10 million jobs and starting to heal our imperiled planet.

My faith teaches me that we should be a nation where the hard-working, middle-class families who’ve made us strong have a real chance to thrive. That’s why I’ll make sure that we reward work, not just wealth, in our policies and in our values. I’ll make sure that we provide every family with access to fair wages, quality health care, good neighborhood schools and a stable retirement.

And my faith teaches me that we should be a nation that once again welcomes the stranger and shows a preferential option for the poor, remembering how so many of us and our ancestors came here in a similar way. I’ll end Trump’s abhorrent asylum policies, protect “Dreamers” and provide a road map to citizenship for the nearly 11 million undocumented people living in and contributing to our communities every day.

Trump doesn’t understand these things, because he doesn’t understand America. He doesn’t know what it means to live for or believe in something bigger than himself.

In 2020, we need a candidate who can not only beat Trump at the ballot box, but a leader who can heal and unite our divided country to get things done.

In hard times, I always come back to the words of theologian Soren Kierkegaard: “Faith sees best in the dark.”

Trump has brought us some very dark days — but in this darkness, I have faith: As president, I’ll make sure that we reaffirm our highest values, rediscover our strength and come together to restore the soul of our nation.

(Former Vice President Joe Biden is a candidate for the Democratic Party's nominee for president. The views expressed in this commentary do not necessarily reflect those of Religion News Service.)

"She's in my top three," said Brody Bertram, a parks worker who came to see Klobuchar in Algona, in her 98th county. It was Bertram's first time seeing a Democratic candidate in person this cycle; he said his other favorites are Buttigieg and entrepreneur Andrew Yang. "I was a Bernie [Sanders] man in the last election," Bertram said. But lately, he said, he's been gravitating toward Klobuchar.

"She's the exact same age as my own mother," said Bertram, who's 33. "I like that Midwestern value she brings. In her I can see the way I think and feel about things."

I'm not an irrational Biden hater, but this guy really gives the GOP so much cover lol.

First, Mitch used Biden's statements to prevent a SCOTUS hearing in Obama's last term to fill the Scalia vacancy
Second, the GOP is using Biden's Ukraine stuff to defend Trump's meddling.
And finally, Biden says he will ignore subpoenas if called to the Senate trial.

Many of these are bulshit, I agree, but Biden is sure the gift that keeps on giving to the GOP lol.

This has been Biden's whole shtick, like, forever. During the Obama years his thing was that once the Tea Party stuff died down that Republicans would be able to start working with Obama and things would get done. For the past couple years his thing has been that it's all Trump's fault and that once Trump is gone that Republicans will settle down and be willing to work with Democrats again to get things done. He honestly believes that the Republican party is just a few steps from going back to the "good old days" of the 80s/90s where you could be a smart centrist and everybody got along even if they disagreed.

tl;dr lol third-way centrism

Biden talked about how unemployed miners and coal workers who have lost their jobs in recent years can find “jobs of the future” if they “learn to program.” Referencing his role in a Barack Obama-era programming skills initiative in schools, Biden commented that “Anybody who can go down 3000 feet in a mine can sure as hell learn to program as well... Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program, for God’s sake!”
