Mm, I'm pretty calm.

Democrats emphasize how important it is to best Trump but refuse to treat the systemic underpinnings that caused his rise while they placate republicans and former members of war crime administration's. And because democrats are so dumb and refuse to address the systemic causes for Trumpism, even if they defeat Trump another head will rise, and it might be a more efficient, smarter one. And then I'll have to "save the country" from that too, never voting for my interests or what I believe in. As it was in 2016 and as it is now in 2020. If the democrats refuse to learn their lessons, they shouldn't govern and if Trump leaves office but Trumpism continues then it's a pointless gesture if you are unwilling to impart behaviors and tactics to defeat the philosophy.

Democrats such big emphasis on electoral politics is a boon to republicans. Getting trump out and going with the same plan that created him is typical donkey. If that's the case, they deserve to lose. Green 2020.

Sure, but their tactics seem to act as if voting itself is a cure all. How will voting for Joe Biden help defeat Trumpism for more than a momentary glance? It will only delay a republican opponent campaigning on the same philosophy. Democrats are the political equivalent of a doctor giving you a z pack.

If there's a political program that inoculates a (rich, white, immigrant-attracting) country from reactionary backlash, that would be very cool!

I haven't checked out the Green platform this year but I imagine it's roughly similar to Bernie/AOC style socdem politics, which in turn are generally in line with France, Scandinavia, etc. Those countries aren't exactly free of rightwing populism.

This is why the DNC this year is about defeating Trump. They're unable to inoculate any lasting appeal to defeating trumpism, so they emphasize defeating the incumbent without addressing policy. Therefore, democrats really think defeating Trump itself will help save the country - and it might for a little while  but we know it would ultimately be a symbolic victory.

I feel like it's just the same old Conservatism, this time they just found an avatar that doesn't bother with the winks and nods and certainly doesn't care about wearing the mask anymore. Nothing about Trump is at all far off from what these people haven't already been saying for years.

If you are progressive you should vote for Biden and play the long game like the Republicans do.

Yes, Biden suuuuucks, and is likely to do fuck all as President other than just “not be Trump” and be relatively competent (or incompetent in a way we are used to as Democrats).

But the reality is, you should vote for Biden because of judges. If Trump gets to appoint another Supreme Court Justice and continue packing his picks into the judiciary, the progressive agenda is done for a generation. You can kiss Medicare for all goodbye for 20 years, regardless of who is President, and regardless of it has popular support.

Operating this way is one of the reasons that Republicans are able to continue to win when they are not in power. A court with Biden appointees will be a lot better than one with Trump appointees, who will essentially have veto power over the entire progressive agenda until they die.

And honestly, Biden has already promised to select a black woman for the Supreme Court. Because of this, his pool of potential candidates that are qualified is pretty small, and almost all of them would be among the most progressive picks in our lifetimes, particularly on criminal justice reform. (Unless he does something really lame like pick Susan Rice).

cindi wants voting for president to be an expression of her true self instead of what it is: a chore and a pain in the ass. this is understandable

unfortunately the structure of american politics makes it very unlikely this will happen in her lifetime

No, the truth is, we have 10 years to unfuck this planet or we are all fucked as a species and Dems still silently took taking off easing out of fossil fuels off their agenda.

I guess one problem I've got is Biden's more left leaning than any other Democratic candidate but I don't trust them to enact those policies because of Obama.

This tweet is a good one and makes me reconsider.

All the repubs getting brownnosed are mostly in a superficial spat with trump, they're not particularly incensed by any policy directive. Anyone navelgazing over the golden years of pre January 2017 is only upset from an optics perspective. They don't like trumpy as a person. And at times they oppose him policy-wise for not being enough of an imperialist bloodshedder.

So any revulsion to this reach across the aisle farce is entirely natural. But you'll just have to stomach it because what else can you do?  :lol

The unpleasant bits always get hidden away. Like how on the topic of unionization and labour movements how complicit cops and army were in killing the poor. Instead we all pretend nothing of note happened and the invisible hand protects all.

Let’s say neither trump nor Biden pursues a green new deal:

Who is more likely to make things somewhat better, and who is likely to make it worse most quickly?

Let’s AOC wins the Presidency in 2024 and gets a green new deal done, which Supreme Court is more likely to block it completely:

The current one with a progressive replacing RBG, or the current one with Ted Cruz replacing RBG?

This isn’t even accounting for the literally hundreds of other federal judges that the next president replaces, who hear collectively thousands of cases per year, and might go their entire career with any of those actually getting to the Supreme Court.

The court system is just as important to your political priorities as every other branch of the government, and you should act like it matters.

Trump says he's fine with Q worshiping him. He's gladly fighting for those things they want him to fight for.  :lol

Asked more directly about Q conspiracy theory that he's saving the world from satanic pedophiles, Trump said “I haven’t heard that, is that supposed to be a bad thing?"
“If I can help save the world from problems, I’m willing to put myself out there.”
