For ultimate weeaboo gameplay, apparently the main character's name in the manga is "Akira Kurusu."

wat.

Kurusu is a really oddly specific strange name.  Only place I've ever heard it is in Billy Bat.  Wonder if it's from that.

What did you all/are you all naming your party?  Mine was PUNKS-IN-YOU

I started nodding off mid-conversation and waking up to find that I had options in the conversation to select so I didn't make it that far. It's been a long day :snore

I'm already liking the cast far more than Persona 4.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
To be fair: I prefer Persona 3 in the "Nu"Persona trilogy so far. So anything is better than Persona 4 as far as I'm concerned.
[close]

Also once you get around 4/15-ish in dates, the localization gets less bad. Why the opening is so bad is a complete mystery. Also holy hell is the "tutorial" long. I'm like 6 hours in and it's still explaining elements of the game to me. Atlus, I've already played Persona before: Let me blow through these tutorials and just blow through the days quickly so I can dungeon spelunk to Pokemon collect. :-\

Finally, the game opens up around 4/18. It's still "on-rails" for that day, but you can at least choose how you want to spend your time then. :doge

I'm trying to figure out the best way to keep SP up for dungeon-runs-in-one-go.  :lol I really wish Atlus would let go of the "no, no, no! Don't grind so much!" mechanics. :'(

This game's real good.

The tone is a lot darker than 4, isn't it?  It doesn't have the same cheeky humor.  The adults in 5 are straight up assholes.

The victory animation of your character running in endless circles cracks me up.

I just about jumped out of my chair and shouted "I WANNA ROCK" when Ryuji got his persona.

When Ann gets her Persona  :gladbron

One of the hypest moments I've had in a JRPG.

All of the persona awakenings have been hype af.

I wish it didn't take 9 years for these games to be made.

It took  years for this one to be made. Smaller teams, HD development, asset generation ect.

I don't think a Persona 6 will take as long.

Well from what I understand production stopped for 1-2 years because their publisher Index got arrested and went bankrupt, there was a sale and Sega picked them up, during which time no one at Atlus was getting paid, so the game was essentially frozen.

Otherwise probably would've come out in 2014-15.  You can tell they used the time to polish the game out though, as it's incredibly polished.

In Japan,

July 2006- Persona 3
April 2007- Persona 3: FES
July 2008- Persona 4
April 2011- Catherine

If they do plan on starting up on Persona 6 right away, they have the engine and assets ready to go a la Persona 4. I don't see any reason they couldn't put a new game out in a few years with relatively quick turnaround.

And don't forget that as far as the Persona brand goes, there was also Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Persona Q, and Persona 4 Dancing All Night released over the last few years.  Not sure how much of the team behind the mainline Persona games worked on all that stuff, but even the Arena games had story modes that I'm sure they must have been a part of.

So if you slot those in:

2006- Persona 3
2007- Persona 3: FES
2008- Persona 4
2009- Persona 3 Portable
2011- Catherine
2012- Persona 4 Golden

Yeah, I have no idea who worked/how development on the portable titles worked so I tried to keep it to the trinity of Hashino directing, Soejima's art and Meguro's music.

My point was more that within that 2006 to 2011 period, they were fairly consistent. The big gap between Catherine and P5 was the oddity and due to circumstances outside of the dev team's control.

EDIT: I totally forgot they have Hashino working on a new IP.  :'(

P4U was outsourced. Outside of like the Persona 4 scenario writer, I doubt Atlus had much influence in it. That was all Arc.
