Do you think people who compare america in 2017 to 30s germany actually believe that to be true or do you think they go to that level of hyperbole because they don't think anybody will actually call them out on it?
don't get me wrong, I also have no interest in trying to explain how wildly wrong they are either, but it's not like that period isn't one of the most studied periods in history and that the information isn't just right out there for people who want to know it
I think social signaling is a major part of it on NeoGAF.com, but it could also be that they think it's true but don't really know what 1930's Germany was like. Or more importantly 1920's Germany. And even more importantly don't care because none of that's actually important information to them.
I mean we're talking about some lines of gibberish dialogue in a video game and this dude seems to think it's part of the Enabling Act plus chattel slavery.
At the same time, people have been misquoting Godwin's Law for so long that we might have reached a singularity where all internet discussions simply start at that point. Which is how the Nazi's started all their discussions.
