The bit about attrition isn't accurate. The Bishpocalypse is a huge outlier but otherwise the mods are extremely fair. Over my time on GAF I had discussions very contrary to the typical viewpoint there and got into an argument with pretty much every moderator that ever posts at least once. Not once had I been banned for having a respectfully stated differing opinion as long as I adhered to civil discourse. (Opinions on the other end don't always have to adhere to the same standard but that's just a side effect of bias. Impossible to escape.) What does happen though is that you can rack up enough negative reputation that when you finally do something worth banning over, they gladly axe you into the void. In my case that was posting in a thread without reading the OP and completely derailing it, while simultaneously defending a sex offender. Ban deserved, inglorious end.

I don’t have time to read everything, but I subscribe to all three, along with my local newspaper, the Houston Chronicle.

Three of these are backed by multibillion dollar multinational conglomerates. The other has the world's second wealthiest person backing it, and the other three also have billionaires with stakes in them.

I'm not sure how subscribing to them and not reading them fights fake news either. Especially in the case of The Washington Post which has had a bad year for running stories counter to what reality is without checking first and/or serving as mouthpieces for fly by night Washington based agitprop organizations.
