He can't 'pass on the reigns' to a thing he solely owns. He's not going to shut it down even if it tapers off even harder than it was already. The new wave of people who show up in the next year won't remember any of this, just like all the current outraged people didn't know about olimario's psp

I'm not saying GAF will die right now(although let's not act like there isn't a chance at this point) but it sure as shit ain't picking up where it left off. Mass exodus, 12+ hours to release a statement, members breaking down in anger while the site breaks down and is inaccessible for a long time. It would take a long time for it to get where it was last week, which sure as shit isn't where it was back 2012.

I want to believe, but most people are super casual. Would have no idea or interest in what's happening. It's more comfortable to pretend the sky isn't falling and that it can be waited out. Usually things can be. If EvilLore has enough money saved and sets fire to the site then that is a path I wasn't expecting.

75% of the allegations against Evilore were already public knowledge to longtime NeoGAF members, and these improprieties were frequent talking points for the Gamergate/KotakuInAction crowd. 

This is the second one.  Moreover, this happened after the tenor of GAF has become more unforgiving to any type of impropriety.

This is the second what?  The second time Evilore did something scummy?  It was already known that Evilore proliferated Olimario's girlfriend's nude pictures as a cheap revenge ploy, leading to Opa-Ages members doxing her and sending those pictures to her friends and family.  It was already known that Evilore groped some girl in Spain when she asked him to buy her a drink.  He's already expressed plenty of anti-feminist and anti-PC sentiment. 

Not to say that this reckoning wasn't deserved or that it wasn't a long time coming.....but it's kind of astounding that it lasted this long.  I could believe it when NeoGAF was an insular community and everybody who brought this shit up got banned and had their post deleted.  But with the advent of social media and outrage-hungry blogs, I am surprised that nobody really wanted to burn the site down until now.  And I'm equally as surprised that the allegations managed to stick this time.  They were previously just dismissed as haters or disgruntled people that got banned.

Just today I visited an event that was dinstictly pro LGBTQ, no-harassement-zone, fuck off if you wanna do anything but talk with likeminded people about their weird, cool video games, because you have to put that barrier up because otherwise many of the people attending get harassed to hell and back, as they are daily on social media.
