Even after the server stopped functioning around midnight EST, Evilore went through both forums.  Every thread referencing the forum closing was locked.  Every thread referencing his groping, showering misadventures was deleted.  Even when the whole site was down, he couldn't help but compulsively go through it and scrub it clean of anything that might make him look bad.

The idea that he might ever re-open the place for discussion seems kinda crazy in light of that. 

At the same time, NeoGAF is Evilore's complete livelihood.  So he's essentially forced to choose between his pride and his income.  I honestly think he'll choose pride.

Yeah but why do that when you can keep the money for yourself. I'm not Lore's accountant but really the site has always been lazily managed, pointing to Lore clocking as low effort as possible. Just look at how ads were managed. He did buff up the servers ultimately and the mobile version was decent but otherwise not exactly up to date forum (wasn't there facebook / twitter buttons that survived only a few months ?).

Well apparently he compensated in some capacity the guy in charge of tech.

But yeah, he should and could have approached it as a real business or job. But obviously didn't care to.

If he ran it as an actual business, he could have probably tripled his revenue. Affiliate links, actual ads instead of the crap running there, endorsement deals, you name it. Hell, he could have probably made a real GAF Gold for $50 a year and gotten a thousand people to sign up without questions asked for a nice tag and a private forum section.

I think it was that GG - and other gaming-oriented controversies since then - showed that this hobby we might have once thought would unite and remove us from the ugliness of life was just as tainted as what we were trying to escape. It proved that many of the people behind the games we enjoy harbor some very dark beliefs that made it very difficult to separate from our enjoyment of this pastime. It's too bad that the vast majority of the people expressing those ugly views are white males. Maybe that's a problem that should be addressed?
