Someone really needed an excuse to post prepubescent girls flashing their panties.

Yes, they do look waifish nowadays. Maybe not from where you are, but certainly around my way. The thin, underaged look is in.

Also, there seems to be a lot of posts that seem to think that a young girl with her legs open and showing her panties is not suggestive...

Nintendo fans are just cheerleaders. If they were all hot blondes, you’d like them better. They don’t usually shit on other games, so much as they just hype their own games up endlessly.

Sony fans are the worst. They shit on everything except their litter box and they’re really really fucking aggressive about it.

I don’t think the Microsoft stans have ever really given a shit about this stuff, so much as they’re mostly just dragged into it by the other two camps.

Burnettes are so much better than blondes. Havaing an actual vagina and being a Nintendo fan makes you so much hotter.

That reminds me that "master race" goons are aids though. Since I'm mostly reading topics on Japanese games, most of the discourse I see from PC people is either port begging or "only 30 fps!? lol gonna pirate, lazy developers gtfo".  :snoop :snoop

If a game god suddenly materializes in front of me and tells me that I have the task of choosing only one current video game hardware company to exist, then sorry guv'ners, but I'm gonna choose the one that's been in this the longest. Sony and Microsoft are gonna get dissolved.

Sony events are starting to remind me of Wii U-era Nintendo when it felt like you kept seeing/hearing about the same couple games for a few years on end. It doesn't help that 2 of their 3 big E3 2015 announcements have been pretty quiet as well.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/footage-of-police-shooting-of-daniel-shaver-made-public.10202/

So this whole Daniel Shaver affair reminds me of the killing of some other guy (forgot his name) in the back of a car. The guy in the back of the car was potentially more of a threat than Daniel Shaver but it was a similar incident.

Now I'm not from the US so these sort of shootings were initially quite shocking. When I saw that guy get shot  in the car my first thought was, "Yeah, this guy was executed". However watching it again and having a little more understanding of police protocol in the US I understood why he was shot.

Quote
The detective investigating the shooting had agreed Shaver's movement was similar to reaching for a pistol, but has said it also looked as though Shaver was pulling up his loose-fitting basketball shorts that had fallen down as he was ordered to crawl.

The investigator noted he did not see anything that would have prevented officers from simply handcuffing Shaver as he was on the floor.

Having watched the video, that is an accurate description of what happened. Now, something really needs to be done about these incidents, but it is not clear to me how you would go about it exactly. The problem is, it ony takes a few seconds to reach for and then fire a gun. What a lot of police officers are thinking in that situation is making sure they go home to their family that night. They shoot because they don't want to take any chances.

I think the real problem is the amount of guns in circulation in the US. The whole approach to US law enforcement is to treat every encounter as potentially life threatening. And so if you move, even slightly, in a way they explicitly told you not to, they will not take the risk.

Edit:Actually the point about handcuffing him on the floor. That would have been a better solution. However, that wasn't how they handled it. There is some criticism to made I am sure, but it is not an execution.

Now, something really needs to be done about these incidents, but it is not clear to me how you would go about it exactly.

How about not show up like you are raiding a cartel drug house when there's zero evidence that you have a situation like that?  This was literally "OMG, there's a guy, and I saw a gun!" in fucking Arizona no less lol.  All the screaming and shouting and commands and yelling that you WILL kill the guy in the first place set the stage.

Having thought about the situation there are few things that certainly could've been done much better. The first thing is the way the commander was shouting at the top of his voice. It was potentially going to put the suspect in a state of panic in which it would be harder for him to think straight. The second thing is they could've handcuffed him on the ground, which I did acknowledge.

Quote
Honestly; bullshit.  American cops love situations like this;  they sit on their asses until something "exciting" happens then all of a sudden every single member of the police force is driving 120MPH down side streets while people jump out of the way to get to the "scene."

Because of the nature of how we Police, the job attracts people who LIKE to shout commands, piont guns, and yes, even shoot people (or dogs.)  Not every precinct is 100% the same but at large urban police forces, it's pretty standard behavior.  If you want to know "why" it happens in America so much, just interact with any given urban police force a few times.  See the attitudes you get, the way they act like they are a military commander and you are a grunt, etc.

About the only Police forces in the US I've had consistent professional interactinos with are State Patrol's.   They drive around alone for a living mostly handing out tickets and dealing with things like accidents, so their job is a bit different and seems to result in a better force.

Now, I don't say this because I feel it is right and totally acceptable for cops to do this sort of thing, I say it because it seems kind of inevitable that when you have a country with a huge gun culture like the US, the police are going to treat every incident as potentially life threatening. You say 'bullshit' but then go on to what seems a bit of a non-sequitur of what I was actually saying. It takes a matter of seconds to pick up a gun and shoot it. It does. And I know they are trained to shoot if the suspect does not obey orders. Some people in that thread went on about him not waiting. How long do you wait and see where it is going though? And if you judge people as not threatening just by appearance, you would be making a mistake. Remember this?

These are highly stressful encounters where one mistake could see you shot dead. And while I think there must be better procedures in place, I can at least understand why some cops aren't willing to see where things are going when suspects disobey an order.

As I said, the biggest issue is the amount of guns in circulation in the US. It is why they follow such aggressive procedures in the first place. Make no mistake, they are trained to shoot in an incident like this. The biggest problem was how they handled the situation before that moment. And that is where they really need to make some serious changes.

My favorite post in the thread was that "not all art is art. This was just a man using painting for his pedophilic tendencies" or whatever. Um. You can not like it - and I certainly don't - but it's still categorically art. With technique, principles (of the artistic kind) to be studied, understood, and all that shit. I could tell right then that poster isn't an artist and likely doesn't have an artistic bone in his body. As an artist I kind of felt insulted by the post even though I support taking the painting down. Not to defend the painting but that post in particular made me gag.

Yeah I know. I Acknowledged this.

A thought just occured to me actually. Maybe they were worried about someone being in the room. Going up to the suspect and putting handcuffs on would leave them vulnerable to being shot from inside the room.

That said it is certainly true the whole thing could've been avoided if they dealt with him on the floor.

I don't think most cops WANT to be in super stressful situations where either they need to kill someone or think they're about to be killed, in the same way I don't think most firefighters WANT to risk their lives running into a burning house.

Some do, though.

Well, somebody needs to do it.

You know, the more you watch something the more you see things. Like for instance, the reason  the officer started shouting was because he put his hands behind his back when they were supposed to be in the air. He could've been shot then and there.

The next part I must say could've been communicated much better. He told him to keep his hands in the air and then said,"crawl to me". When someone says crawl you think instinctively to walk on all fours, but that wasn't what he meant. That was the reason he started shouting again, because what he really wanted was for him to walk on his knees with his hands in the air. Of course in a state of panic like the guy was, he wasn't sure what the fuck he was meant to do.

I think the police officer needed to be far more careful in the way he communicated to him. I think also he needed to repeat those commands continually to him.

Amazing how upset some people on era are about the guy going off at the game awards

An asshole.

Self promoting, taking credit for himself, rude, insulting people for no reason, narcissistic, generally full of shit, unprofessional.

Imagine having to work with this guy, especially if you're a woman. Maybe I'm being overly judgemental over a brief impression, but it was not favorable.

If you thought it was amusing or cool you must be an edgy 14 yeat old.

Guy says "Fuck the oscars" ---> "He probably harrasses women!"

I don't know how these people function in the real world.

People have the right to react angrily to this news, particularly minorities who have legitimate reasons to fear and distrust the police. Feel free to disagree with them and challenge their views, but while we would prefer if everyone avoided sweeping and possibly unfair generalizations about entire groups of people, we will not excessively tone-police those who are reacting strongly to these news, so long as they don't take out their anger on other ERA members. Remember to be civil with one another.

This is in response to numerous people saying "kill all pigs, they don't deserve to live"  So I guess that isn't just allowed but promoted.

Might do him a world of good to let off a few swear words, if it keeps his house from getting trashed and his wife, kids and dogs stop being terrified of him.

This would be a good place to start. Guns are legal. The police can't be given the option to act as death squads when they are informed of the presence of a gun.

When someone called in to say Daniel Shaver had a gun the cops charged in like they were raiding a terrorist compound and subjected him to torture before killing him. The shooter had "YOU'RE FUCKED" written on his personal weapon. Even if you only watched before the shooting their actions should be criminal. There was never a reason to escalate the situation as they did, transparently egging themselves on to commit murder. When they said they were going to shoot him it wasn't for his benefit (all it would do is cause panic and confusion as he realized their intentions) it was for their own benefit (it was a way they could edge toward murdering him without deciding on it all at once).

Shaver had a pellet gun so he deserved to suddenly play a sick game of Simon Says on penalty of death. OK. So if the police stopped a random person on the street, for no reason at all, and had them play their deadly version of Simon Says, is that fine? The pellet gun makes the difference, in a country where guns are legal?

I do think this was murder, but it's also a case where they shouldn't have been there at all. Luckily we don't have to choose between convicting for murder and changing procedure so cops don't perform an incompetent facsimile of a military operation when informed of the possible presence of a legal gun. Unluckily, the reason we don't have to choose is that we can't have either.

It's like... it's just frustrating, seeing people who ostensibly study the media they keep critiquing, somehow not understanding or deriving any sort of insight *of* that media any deeper than the distance between the finger and the end of its nail.

I’d be all for police murdering people if they targeted the homeless. Fuck, kill all of them you want. If was eating at an outdoor taqueria, and I got sprayed with a load of blood from a police shotgun blast hitting some drunk street trash, I’d vocally praise the Lord Jesus and offer to pay more taxes.

Reports to the police claimed he was pointing a scoped rifle out of the window. They thought he was getting ready to shoot someone. That was what they were responding to.

The homeless should never be bareback, for as it says in the bible

And he would answer and say to them, "The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise."

Just in case it wasn't clear what you ought to do if you only have one tunic:

My patron Saint is known for cutting his own cloak in half to clothe a random naked beggar. Then he happily rode past the poor starving fucker on his own horse, fully clothed but with half a cloak, then slept in a warm bed and dreamt of Jesus. While the poor naked beggar probably froze to death; because honestly, half a cloak is fucken useless.

It's okay to keep your car and house and iPad and whatnot. You only have to cut one of your cloaks in half and give one of the two pieces away. It's important you keep the other half so you can check whether it regenerates into a whole, which would indicate that Jesus approves of your cloak cutting ways and has elevated you to saint status.
