Art thread of crippling self doubt
« on: November 03, 2017, 01:22:16 PM »
Now that the board is a bit more active, and my outlet for GAF lulz has been neutered, I thought I'd start an art thread.

I'm sure there are more than a few talented people posting/lurking on this board so I'll get this ball rolling with some recent stuff:

Please don't be shy about posting, all levels of talent are welcome!

AHMAZING!  :o

Really great stuff, dude. I think I might've seen your work before somewhere on the web.

I take it you're a commercial or concept artist?

I've posted my instagram before ...haven't really contributed much to it because I'm a lazy artist (or rather an overworked designer who has no motivation to draw at the end of the day).

I haven't drawn anything in over 8 years and I feel like a piece of shit over it. Was probably my one great passion in life and now all my desire for it is gone.

I know it can sound cliche, but it's honestly never too late to dust off that skill and get back into it. You should post something!!

I charge $500 to $1000 a day for freelance design work. So $100 is a bargain in comparison. :snob

And sure, it's a veiny dick but I'm not one to work for little to no money.

Artists and designers who underprice their work is a giant pet peeve of mine.

Nothing lol.

$75 is my baseline fee these days. Anything beneath that is not worth my time.  :doge

And I do get complaints from people that I'm too expensive but I work a full-time job (and then some) so I have to have a "high gate" for my freelance stuff or I'll just burn myself out and feel like I'm wasting my time.

And I'll even admit I'm probably too overpriced at my current skill level but hey, there's a lot of really talented people out there who are tragically underpricing their skills and their work.

Also, I like the excuse "oh, but art and design is fun. So naturally you'd be okay with working for free, right?"

For me art and design is tedious and sometimes very stressful. Especially when I'm trying to excute someone else's vision.

There's only been a few times where I've gotten a significant kick out of doing something and it was usually due to a giant burst of inspiration that came out of nowhere.

No lie, Iím with Dufus in that Iím a bit intimidated by the art by the others in this thread! I used to draw all the time when I was a kid, but I got out of practice as I got older. Oddly enough, I recently took up the pencil and paper again this month in an effort to fix that.

Iím trying to draw at least once a day in November. Hopefully Iíll have something Iíll be able to show in here before the end of the month!

I've been drawing every week but it's just shitty sketches for the most part.  Too embarrassed to post most of them because of how "low effort" they appear. :doge

Fucking design job just eats all my will power to draw well.

Donít put pressure on sketching. Sketching is for your me time. Sketching isnít about drawing well. Itís about exploring ideas and putting mediocre and bad ideas to paper so you have your good ideas for the real shit. Go to a coffee shop and just draw people doing their thing doing simple gestures. Make it an adventure, not a chore. Your skills will improve ten fold. Try to sketch every day. Doesnít have to be anything elaborate. Just draw whatís around you.
