Faust is really bad & sorta boring and they did a good job putting a finger on the issues. That main actor is just that goofy all throughout. But still, Yuzna, so it has some actual personality and kinks.

Jay apparently never heard of the myth of Faust ?

They didn't mention it but Hologram Man was directed by Richard Pepin so very likely a PM Entertainment production. It certainly looks so considering the insane action opening, good stunt production value, the presence of Joe Lara and the weak ass script.

I’m more surprised that Rich knows about Faust and Mephistopheles.

Jay is not exactly knowledgeable about old monsters and myths, he thought that Baba Yaga “was funny” and Rich was making it out.

I'm always surprised by it considering he seems a fairly avid horror fan but yeah he was also surprised by the whole Asian flying head vampire flick.

Though I didn't remember that Faust is based on a edgy 90 comic book so that whole embarrassing "Faust ? Sounds like Spawn" bit wasn't in vain.

I feel that Rich wanted to complain a bit more but decided to just to be sarcastic to the fans when they mention how they are praising something that “subverts their expectations”. Also, the fact that they aknowledge that people that don’t follow the films will be totally clueless about what is going on but didn’t care was a little disconcerting.

I thought they were pretty fair (as always) to the Avengers. It was nice to see someone be fair to it. Seems most of internetdom either wants to gush about the movie or be all edgy and say it sucks worse than a ten dollar whore.

I think they gave credit where credit is due and called out the issues they saw.

Friedkin can be all over the place with opinions and change them from an interview to the next. He could also be a cranky old racist now I guess.

I've mostly read interviews with him and he's abrasive, dismissive of reviewers, aggressively doesn't care what people thinks and hate movies who feed you meaning down your throat. Doubt and self reflection (especially on his own hubris) is in no short supply for him though and he'll often back and forth on big questions (notably Rampage has two edits, one leaning more in favour of capital punishment, the other against), saying radically opposed things depending on the interview (he alternates between praise and loathing for the sort of cops he depicted). He certainly loves to be provocative and a contrarian.
