I'm loving this trend of Jay pointing out Star Trek connections before Mike, it's almost like Jay wants to impress him. :lol :uguu

These fan-edits are RLM methadone.

Well maybe more like RLM grass. It's a familiar high but still worth it.

Lol Plinkett reviews take like 6-12 months each breh. They rushed the TFA review and that was the worst one. Would much rather Mike take his time. We already have Mike and Rich's rough thoughts on every other episode.

IIRC it took them like five years to finish it (was a running joke for a bit whether it would even come out), so I'm excited to see BTS footage from a variety of timeframes. :hyper

it's a shame the movie didn't end very good, I don't know what went wrong...they're all so entertaining in every other context, just apparently not when they're trying to be :(

I still enjoy seeing the sets and all, knowing how low budget it is and how much creative work went into putting it all together, they just apparently can't write a comedy movie

the creative decision to make a non-working stove look like it's boiling a pot of water by running hoses out behind it so Rich can blow into it and make it bubble is so much better than the movie itself

It's not exactly the same thing but a lot of good comics are pretty bad at comedy movies in general (all roles, not just direction).
And aside for a handful of Nouvelle Vague critics from Les Cahiers du Cinéma and some similar cases for other New Wave movements elsewhere, going from criticism to worthwhile directing is not really a thing. And even then it was probably more that criticism was the side hustle all along.

I like them a lot but let's be honest : there's some production value to their videos (editing and pacing are the strong point IMHO) but it's not slick, pretty sloppy in parts (I remember some jarring lack of homogeneity in grading between cameras for instance) and not always on purpose. The whole is generally very endearing and works but it's a far cry from actual film.

Their sketch stuff has always been a hit and miss to me. I like their funny discussions and they analyzing films, but their scripted stuff is mostly uninteresting outside Plinkett. Probably that is the reason why they started to not care about the sketchs  or storylines in half in the bag.

They are obviously not as bad as Channel Awesome sketches, is just that certain part of their scripted humor is not for me.

Kind of feel bad for Jay when he said he is not interested intentionally bad films but unintentional ones, even more because they are aware that Space Cop is shitty.

If we respect criticism as an art form then we must respect that being good at such does not guarantee you're good at filmmaking. Just as filmmakers may not be good critics.

That said, Space Cop was pretty much made as both a joke and away to develop their skills (their scripted stuff keeps getting more elaborate.) And they enjoy the craft, and made it for no budget. I doubt they care whether anyone likes it lol, which is kinda the point?

No it's legitimately fucking terrible and utterly unwatchable without the commentary, which is up on their bandcamp anyway so just listen to it and don't bother watching.

it's what they always say themselves, a bad movie can be funny but a bad comedy is just awful

"non-medy" coined by Rich where a joke happens and even though you already weren't feeling happy and entertained, you are now even slightly less entertained than before

My personal theory is that it was right when RLM was getting big so he wanted to look good.

Then in the last 6 months he's let himself fall off a cliff, probably getting cynical to the point of not giving a shit again.

But like I said, that's just my personal theory.

I thought it was good but ultimately the fact that they didnt want to go over the stuff they already went over with mike/rich left plinkett's take too unstructured. It wasnt total ass like the force awakens review, it just needed to get cleaned up and like fifteen minutes trimmed out. I liked it though overall  :)

I think this was a bad one for me, I feel it was rushed and Mike was probably drinking a lot alone when he wrote it and didn’t have Jay or Rich to edit out some of the Mike from it. Still good ending. I wish he’d man up and finish doing Star Wars.

Prequel Plinkett is still the best, because they had a decade of thinking about that dumpster fire. These Episode 7 and Picard videos came barely a few months (?) after the thing came out.

GB16 is the best Plinkett review since the prequels, so Mike still has it, but yeah when they're rushed out it tends to suffer a bit. And the reViews took a bit out too yeah.
