TBH they should wait till GTA5 stops selling.

So 2022 give or take.

I recently heard the GTAV/Online sales are finally slowing down. I don't know if I should believe it or not. Online has been making them stupid-money.

Something im really looking forward to is being a ravenous asshole and looting and pillaging everyone and that making sense narrative wise. Hopefully.

Like, you can rob the Armadillo bank, shoot and kill people on Bonnie's ranch, and then main story npcs are willing to help John. Its really fun to be ruthless and be an asshole in RDR, but it creates a goofy narrative conflict.

The playable character they've showed off so far seems to fit the bill.  You're right about the disconnect between the overworld and missions. That's why I hope they have multiple playable characters with different personalities to let players have a choice a la GTAV. Not that this game needs a full blown Trevor per se but a general asshole would be good.  On the opposite end, I'd like someone close to my RDR Marston.

I played it Neutral Good in RDR or at least a much as you can in a Rockstar game. My Honor meter was maxed to Hero relatively quickly.

Ehh I don't think it matters that much, it's just some extra fun. Free roam is just free roam. I'd rather they give you that option than try to make a different character to fit that bill, John's arc is really good. Happens in Bully too.

That said, does that morality system in that game matter at all?

My favorite types of ruthless:

Lose at poker, texas hold em, blast the winner in the head.
Kill the woman used in random ambushes.
Win a dual by shooting them in the hand then executing them point blank.
Start a bar brawl, execute them when theyre knocked out.

No matter what, the Mexico portion is a bloodbath. You end up with a thousand kills by the end of the act. If you think about it, John is never a good person. His reputation for being a safekeeper is accurate, but honor isn't driven by good, right decisions imo.

You kill a thosand people plus to be reunited with your family. That's selfish as fuck. John knows that too, he isnt surprised when the military comes to kill him and his family.

Along with fame, it affected shop prices, the bounty system, how quickly you were reported for crimes, npc chatter and unlocked some outfits/horses.

Well, that's the point of it all, ain't it? John tried to leave his old life behind but the old life couldn't leave him, and he get's progressively more aggressive by trying to get save the people he love. The part with the natives towards the end is pretty hardcore too. Ultimately all conflicts in this game are gray because everyone is an asshole.

It falls apart upon closer inspection, but I was a fan of the "unreliable narrator" theory about RDR. Plus, Rockstar doesn't have the chops to pull off that kind of subtlety.

Yeah, actually, there was that Achievement for getting the darkest reputation, and I played John as lawful/good as I could, so I cranked out the dark reputation in Jack's role. Honestly, made me feel dirty.

World simulation matters more than visual fidelity in RS games so I'm guessing that's where a lot of processing is going towards.

Also, according to hands-on previews, they're still demoing the game on a base PS4 -same as the initial trailer they released 2 years ago.

It's not the best looking open world game on the market but it still looks very good. I've seen people comparing screenshots of the Xbox One X 4k enhanced version of RDR to blurry youtube compressed screencaps from the trailer for RDR2.  "The new one looks worse!" :derp

how will black people be treated? I'm really curious how they'll be handled. A white man talking to a black woman? A white man and a black man tapping beer glasses? In the 1800's? I hope they don't treat it ahistorically. I was looking for black people in the gang because that'd be interesting. Sounds SJW-ish but seeing realistic portrayals of race in video games really interests me from a storytelling perspective.

I'm surprisingly excited for this game. Rockstar's open world games are the only ones I could trust these days.

Game looks fantastic.

If they're doing it right, it should depend on the location or situation. The two things you mention most likely happened more than we know. A lot of data from that period is whitewashed.

I think saloons were segregated, but people could meet on the middle ground.

It reminds me of that article on how much effort they put into using the euphoria stuff in gta IV.

Imo, it’s one of those things that really sets apart the production values on rockstar stuff to from other games.

Curious to see how they handle the online stuff. I'm fine with GTA online so I assume they are going to use that approach rather than the payed DLC-centric approach of last gen.

I am pretty hype on this but only worry is they get too far up their asses with all of the small systems...like you have 30 mins to sell your deer or it will spoil, have to keep camp morale at a certain point, etc. Really kinda eh on the horse stuff I read about a few weeks ago.

They kind of have benefit of the doubt as RDR is one of my fave games of all time though.  :idont

Having it ready to play Thursday night is dope, download or install is 87.87 GB on Xbone. Have 80 GB about done now. Being so close to playing the game is torture.
