I'll flash my lights at someone if they are just hanging out in the left lane and there's nothing on the right stopping them from moving over or if they are in that lane and not actually passing anyone. It's a hell of a lot safer than riding someone's bumper at 70mph. Most of the time they'll move over as well.

The only ones that don't move over I assume are just oblivious or, like that poster, decide that they will be the law and stop others from speeding.

Oh yeah I had this happen to me on the way to work last month. It was a 4 lane (2 lanes in each direction) arterial road, speed limit 35 MPH in a residential/industrial type area. I was in the left hand lane. There was traffic including a semi in the right hand lane. This older woman in an obvious hurry switches out of the right hand lane after being behind the semi right onto my ass, tailgating me. She's flashing her lights as I accelerate to about 40 to pass the truck. She then honks her horn and I see her gesturing in her car...flashing her lights again.

I slow down so the nose of my car is even with the truck. We stay this way for about a half mile, as the last behind me is just super pissed off. I eventually speed up and before I can even change lanes into the right hand lane, she changes lanes to the right and squeezes through the gap between my car and the truck, middle finger raised as she passes me. I smiled, waved and blew her a kiss. We then got stuck at the same red light a little farther up the road. I could only laugh.

I don't understand this behavior at at all. If someone wants to pass, I let them pass. I'm not the police and I don't care about someone wanting to speed. They are probably more dangerous upset and right behind me then they are speeding off in front of me. But I guess I can't be shocked at resetti posters wanting to be irl mods.

Lost Prophets and Dumpster Diving Related:

I threw away a Lost Prophets shirt with a bunch of other clothes and junk magic the gathering cards when I was switching apartments after my sophomore year of college (around 2005).  When I went back to toss more stuff a homeless guy was inside already going through everything.  Cool.

A few weeks later at a local coffee place I was playing Magic the Gathering with my roommate when that same homeless guy came in.  He came over to us, bummed a cigarette, then asked if he could sit at the table and play a few games of Magic.  It was after midnight so it was already weird/unsettling seeing him, but I bought him a coffee and told him he could play when we were done with our game.

Before we started playing he took off his coat which revealed the same Lost Prophets shirt I threw away.  So now it was really weird and we wondered if he recognized us.  He seemed harmless though so whatever.  After he started playing with us using a mono blue deck things got a bit comical when he would keep enthusiastically saying things like "How do you like me now?!" or "Ah Ha!" every time he'd play shit cards like


After we pummeled him several games my roommate and I decided it was time to go.  Before we left the homeless dude asked if we wanted to buy his cards.  Most/all of his cards were ones I had already thrown away before, but feeling sorry I gave him a ten and said he could keep the cards.  Then he asked if we wanted to buy some cell phones and he opened a bag that only had landline cordless phones in it.  I told him they were all really nice but there was no way I could afford a second "cellphone".

Then we left.  Never saw him again. 
He was an old guy with no teeth and ears that looked like a tattered old sponge.   
I doubt he's still alive.

When I was a young man, I had a car that had flip-up lights. You could install those headlamps upside down so that the beam was shooting up into the sky, instead of down on the road.

I initially did it on accident for one of them, but soon realized I could use it as a weapon. If I got close enough to your car, it would shoot my light right into your rear-view mirror. People would get agitated by it, then speed up to get out of range of my light. Then I would just keep doing it until you were going the speed I wanted you to. Then I could pass you.

There was a point in my life where I would scour neogaf and whine too. Thinking back to my earlier posts on the bore, I was at a much more lonely and hermit point of my life. Where the majority of my socializing came from forum posting.

Its embarrassing to think about how much merit I put onto forums, how angry and petty I was.

I view forums as a social crutch. Doesn't need to be viewed as a bad crutch either, but I have equal parts pity and shame for some posters. Not posters on Ree either, for the most part.

What I do is:

- Clearly show my intent to go faster by getting fairly close to them, but not extreme tailgating.
- If they don't budge I back off a bit to lull them into not paying attention to me
- Wait for my chance and floor it and pass on the right

Anything else isn't worth it IMO;  have had too many situations where a person purposefully tries to box me out, speeds up when I try to pass on the right, break checking, or even extreme shit like the time a guy followed me constantly speeding up on my ass, slowing down, getting next to me, swerving into me, etc. for literally 100 miles or so on a drive from Seattle to Portland after all I did was flash my lights to pass. 

People are fucking dicks on the road; I'd say only half of people will get over naturally to let you pass.. the other half do the "I'ma go slow until you try to pass me on the right" routine.   Which is why I don't tailgate because that's when they start paying attention.

I mean, i'm driving in a lane.. so the only thing is possible speeding, which I'm fine with doing occasionally.  There's nothing specifically illegal about it otherwise, not like I'm driving in the shoulder.

I don't know when I studied for my drivers license test, granted that was like 18 years ago, the guide book specifically said thar yoy should only pass on the left. That might be specific to my state though. And it creates other potential problems, like what if the person on the left lane drives slower than the speed limit? Should I slow down to their speed so I don't pass them?

I remember a few years ago all the Walmarts around my area installed those self checkout registers everywhere. They still had human cashiers, but it was an option. They took them all out for some reason. I actually liked those. Home Depot still has them. I think Winn Dixie had them too, and it was a clusterfuck when I went (don't normally shop at WD), every customer had to get assistance.

I went to a McD's the other week and they had the kiosk where you order and check out. They already knew how clunky their software was because they had a dedicated emoloyee to walk each customer through all the steps. What a shitshow!

I've conditioned myself to be a lot more zen-like about driving. I don't get mad about people cutting me off, I just laugh it off with amusement now. Sometimes if I am in a rush to get somewhere, I might reluctantly cut someone off, but try to avoid any crazy stunts. Majority of the time I give myself enough of buffer so I don't have to rush. It's not worth risking your life or the stress to road rage

A little while ago someone did one of my top 3 LA driving pet peeves: fairly crowded freeway that is also somehow moving quickly, I'm leaving about a car-length buffer between me and the guy ahead of me, and the driver behind me jumps into the right lane, speeds up, and merges into that car-length buffer. Fuck people who do this.

About a mile later I had the opportunity to do the same to him, so I did. He was so legit shook that he just fell back a few hundred feet. Felt like I could see his soul exiting his body in my rearview.
