Of the forums I visit only ResetEra complained about these spirits so it's not really a loss of sales for them.
Even some POC users said they don't really care whether they're going to be patched or not. Sadly I don't think they will.

It doesn't seem like it's gotten any attention beyond here. I don't mean to diminish us, but it would need a lot more attention to qualify as a "PR nightmare".

I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't want their biggest Smash Bros game (and biggest title for all of 2018) being branded as "the racist Smash Bros game". Especially not if Nintendo is getting at all involved with trying to keep Ultimate in the tournament scene. I think this hasn't gotten too much attention because the game is still relatively new and this is really being picked up during the holidays, when social media accounts are on scheduled posts and game journalists are just doing they're end of the year list.

When these dopes were on NeoGAF.com they had already decided "alt-right" = "white supremacist" without ever questioning why we'd need a second term if that was the case and what would make them "alternate" especially as they tagged everyone already "right of the left" with it. Trump was "alt-right" for expressing the same views as Pat Buchanan half a century prior. Pepe was "alt-right" for being created as a symbol of white supremacy.
