looking at that
latest spoiler ETIQUETTE thread again, as someone offhand noted, you start to realize that if the enjoyment of something for some of these people is entirely dependent on a single piece of info not being known beforehand, especially a game which can have tens of hours of content before that event/twist/item/etc., you have to wonder about the quality of the thing as a whole and whether it's worth it for that person... also apparently people were up in arms because someone "spoiled" that the HOOKSHOT was in Zelda: BOTW?!?
even in the case of a film it kinda says something which is probably why m. night or other hacks stick em at the end...it's one thing when you can go back and rewatch with the new info and see that it's effectively all there like with say, the TV series Mr. Robot, where Elliott and Christian Slater are always blocked together whenever Mr. Robot is talking to someone (Mr. Robot is also a solid example because everyone can and should guess that twist from the very start but there's still more, and far far better imo, reveals that work backwards throughout the show/seasons)
iirc The Sixth Sense, which people are somehow still talking about,
does do something like this...i don't remember if Memento (HAHA GOOD ONE BENJI) does but then it also tells the story out of chronological order
other examples in that thread are more like people are describing their first time jacking off instead of reading a book or whatever...i haven't even read Harry Potter, seen a couple of the movies, but i have to imagine "Snape kills Dumbledore" is more relevant because of the
why than the fact it happens
Why do people just keep posting famous spoilers for no reason ? We are a big forum, there is a chance someone wants to follow the discussion without, you know, getting spoiled about something completely irrelevant to the thread.
Do people not understand how insensitive selfish and disrespectful that is?
The issue of technological illiteracy among the youth is growing bigger and bigger with each year. For many people using a spoiler tag takes much more effort than for the rest of us and requiring them to do it constantly is simply cruel. We should show some empathy and instead of laughing at those less capable we need to think of ways to help make their lifes easier. Not having them perform such a troublesome task every time they want to discuss their favourite games would be a good first step towards this noble goal.
I like the implication that no one ever sees anything that came out more than a few months ago.
This thread is very useful to fill my ignore list.
Spoilers are the bane of gamers, especially the ones that like a good story. And as long as spoiler tags are used, I don't see the problem.
Also, the use of spoilers is not up for debate. As long as there's the chance that one person could get annoyed with it, it's better to use spoiler tags. Not using spoiler tags in this case is imo ban worthy.
also:
I got thinking about this recently with NintendoLife casually spoiling wind waker spoilers.
that there's a shitty map quest where the rest of the game was supposed to go?
