No record of him claiming any race is subhuman/substandard, rejecting diverse applicants, making off-color jokes, as far as I'm aware.

On Twitter he had the nerve to double down and defend himself, basically saying "no, I'll make my game how I want, we got historians on staff who say certain other races were really unlikely at this time and place," etc.

They REALLY don't like people defending themselves from a basis of scientific/historical fact that doesn't match their worldview.  And I mean I'm aware that whatever history he's citing might be colored by what he wants to put in his game too, at that rate all facts are as fluid as you want them to be to fit your narrative, but at least it sounds like he put in a little work to back his claims up.

Another example of Vavra actually running the numbers on a claim to support his argument that has them real riled up (the lower one on women in gaming).  To them anyone who would tally things up like this is just looking for an excuse to make terrible claims.  Maybe he is, I don't know.  All you can do is look at the facts.

As someone who was vegetarian for 28 years before going vegan, I can tell you thst dairy cows and chickens suffer some of the worst fates of any animal, and that's why I now see my time as a vegetarian as one of supreme hypocrisy.

Hours or days after birth, a female dairy cow is usually taken away from it's mother. As soon as it is old enough to get pregnant, a farmer sticks a fist up its anus and a rod full of bull semen into its vagina. It is necessary for a cow to become pregnant to provide enough milk for the exploitation to be profitable for the farmer. When the baby is delivered, if a girl it will be taken away and suffer the same fate. If a boy, it will be killed/ sold as veal and then killed as boys are of no value to the dairy industry. Now ready to produce milk, the mother will be hooked up to machines to extract the milk meant for its children - if the mother has just recently given birth, she'll be crying for her baby through this process. The milking can become painful, especially if the cow develops mastitis in its udders, a very common ailment in the industry. This cycle of forced impregnation, stealing of infants and milking will continue until the cow is considered 'spent' at a fraction of its natural lifespan. It ends up on the same crowded trucks going towards the same horrific slaughterhouses.

The majority of eggs come from battery hens, or "free-range" hens who are cramped into the same sized facilities with the same number of peers, just without barriers (so they can move slightly and stamp over the decaying bodies of others who haven't been picked up by the farmer yet). In all farms, yes even that super wonderful local farm near your uncle's house in the country, male chicks are of no use and so are killed within days, often by being ground up alive, or suffocated in bags. The hens, if they don't die from the strain of producing dozens more eggs than they would naturally, are also slaughtered at a fraction of their natural lifespan.

I don't have many objections against honey. Bees may be able to suffer so I give them the benefit of the doubt but there are much bigger problems to deal with.

I know a manager of an animal rights organisation who has a rescue chicken, it's very unusual here in Japan. It rushes over to greet her every morning. Buying chickens wouldn't be considered vegan in any definition I've seen though.

Eating the eggs wouldn't make you not vegan. If you found unfertilized eggs that were abandoned by the layer, why shouldn't you eat them? Veganism is about avoiding unnecessary harm to sentient creatures.

If you buy chickens, you are financially supporting a breeder who in all likelihood kills the male chicks, because it isn't profitable for them to have thousands of roosters running around. Therefore you are supporting harm.

Plant-based is a diet, veganism is a moral position.

No farmed animal does of old age unless it is rescued by a sanctuary (or the farmer decides to keep one as a pet, wouldn't make sense to keep them all as pets though). Most of what I was told as a child, and probably what you have been told, about the animal agriculture industry is myth.

I feel bad and would avoid such crops if there were alternatives. However I am killing far less of them than I would if I was paying someone to feed crops to animals to then be killed for my benefit. Non plant-based diets are responsible for far more crop-related deaths than plant-based ones.

Plus it would take a pretty sick God to give a brain and nervous system to something designed to be nothing but a food source. I also wonder why God programmed us to find violence to animals repulsive, to the extent we lie to our children to get them to partake in the violence, and need to hide the act behind slaughterhouse walls.
