Does Gematsu and Siliconera have decent quality discussion boards?

No boards; just comments.  Just places to go to get game news that update several times daily.

Any time you try alternatives you're reminded of the shortcomings of not being on a normal board. Like you wouldn't even have gotten notice of the dumb Diablo drama on gematsu (or most non-weeb topics, while other sites lack the weeb stuff). And on something like reddit threads don't stay. I.e. if there's minor conferences or streams, on GAF the according threads would be bumped and you'd automatically get a reminder, but there wouldn't be specific news on other sites until it's over.

You're not talking with crazy people, you're just posting on a forum that leans very heavily to one side and you're outnumbered. I have loads of mates who play video games as their main hobby and we wouldn't cringe or think too much about someone using the the word 'gamer'. I'm from the UK.

Gaming is a young hobby after all, and it definitely went through its awkward teenage phase. Now it's fully mainsteam I think people want to distance themselves from the 'gamer' tag, that people adopted back in the days when it was an unpopular hobby and has become associated with some toxic behaviour. I'll still say I'm a gamer though, because saying 'someone who plays video games' is just irritatingly long winded, and using that in day to day conversation comes across like you're waiting for the opportunity to explain your thought process or start a debate. That in itself is cringey as fuck.

But the point is that sadly the GAF format with a big enough userbase still is the best format to get everything in one place, which is way convenient and not as convoluted as reddit. That kind of forum doesn't exist anymore.  RE has too much REEEEEEEEEEE going on that makes it harder to find the regular old video game stuff or to discuss it.  Look at the Sony censorship thing, for instance- RE stopped all conversation related to it.

Go to gematsu.com and siliconera.com.  They even do the job of picking out the announcement stuff that makes it to era first for you.

Honestly, just following a couple of twitter accounts like Wario64 and other gaming focused accounts you can tolerate gets you even quicker news. And then you can ignore the inane comments that resetti posts.

Clearly- I don't even use a mic most of the time and have gotten some pretty bad hate messages back calling me the n-word, telling me to die, go get raped, whatever.  This is from playing fighting games, BTW.  I don't think I've even ever gotten hate messages when playing other kinds of games.  Doesn't even matter anymore since on the consoles I play on, there are no messages on Switch and you can just block all messages from non-friends on PSN.

I usually only save the dumber or more clever messages, like this one, so I don't have any examples to post.

The opposite of this is true. If you slowly increase the heat, the frog will jump out before being harmed. If you directly throw it into boiling water it might not be able to get out at all.
