These kind of posts have so many incredibly ahistorical premises packed into them it's like an endless string if you start to pull at it because of a lack of self control at times.
They probably actually believe that in both wars both the insane demands of unconditional surrender and the initiation of total wars of attrition including against civilian populations was both necessary and
good. Same for the refusal to pursue ending the War with Germany "early" by regime change (preventing the Holocaust) because it didn't deal out enough collective punishment. (Meanwhile, after we accomplished that, we conducted individual waivers for actual specific Nazi's who were key to post-war political considerations*.)
*Something similar was done for the Confederates. And eventually the Union abandoned trying to enforce any kind of rights for freedmen for nearly another 80 years in return for...immediate political benefits.
