iirc the actual symbol originated in Ukraine and spread out from there, ultimately being left facing in China's sphere of influence and right facing in the Indian subcontinent area.

I just don't know what progressives gain by trying and provide context on it outside of those "in the know" as it were.

I mean, we can explain the history of the meme and how it was adopted, but I don't think we have to go out and makes a campaign against the ok-hand sign, as it were.

In the meantime you get well meaning but confused people like the OP who begin seeing shadows on the cave wall and think they're living in a reality in which they aren't precisely BECAUSE some progressive activists have magnified this issue and those like it beyond any practical example.

If amazon WERE selling an enamel pin of the ok-hand sign... what practical effect would we achieve by starting some Quixotic campaign to have them remove it? Would the next step then be to have the emoji removed?

I think some of us need to more rationally approach the goals of our activism rather than for the activism to be the goal in and of itself.
