Additionally, being charitable is a privilege of the well-off white man. Minorities don't get the same extended to them. It's hard to be charitable with people who want you to not exist. It's easy to go "woah woah let's have some calm and charitable discourse here" when you're not under attack daily through systematic and otherwise bigotry.

Cherry picking specific comments on a forum is possibly as much a detriment to dialogue as a lack of charitable interpretation, and yet it's often necessary with the volume of comments that accumulate

It ties back into the charity discussion as "accepting an assist" means you're taking their comments into the fold of your argument, and their hot take then becomes your hot take, their lack of good faith becomes your lack of good faith ("why did you skip over all these reasonable objections and pull out the one statement agreeing with you?")
