I don't know the specifics but if you read the original thread there were plenty of folks -- including myself -- discussing the many weird inconsistencies in the story - and commenting bluntly that it was all very weird - but there was at least one poster actively hoping for a "backwards b" twist for what at that time seemed like a weird way to discuss it.

I was very plain that there were elements of his story that didn't add up - but also that sadly there's nothing impossible about

a) racists shouting MAGA and beating up a person of color
b) a celebrity being stalked by violent and racist haters
c) the Chicago PD releasing faulty information through mistakes or incompetence
d)a city PD releasing false information for deliberately malicious reasons
e) the press misreporting fundamental facts and creating a confused or false narrative
f) a celebrity trying to create publicity or drama where none existed

The story was muddled several times, on the fly by all of the above and more (including a seemingly fabricated leak that he was going to be fired followed by a statement from Fox that it was untrue - and the PD releasing updates as they found out more.

The number one thing that raised suspicions for me and others was the existence of a clearly related threat that was sent to the studio days prior - but also that his stalkers or hate mail senders knew where he lived and happened to be prepared with a noose and bleach at 2am when he got the munchies. All of the above things were and are still possible - and he's still not charged with a crime and there's still a chance more shoes could drop.

I think people - mods and posters alike - are on edge because very real, unfabricated racism and division are being resurrected, amplified and frankly created by a significant faction of our elected leaders.

If it turns out he faked all this for publicity or something selfish and venal then he deserves to be held accountable. But it doesn't mean racism is not real, or hyped up or exaggerated. For every Jessie Smollet, there's a thousand dead young men and women, innocent kids in jail, communities torn apart and presidents defending nazis as very fine people, encouraging cops to rough up untried arrestees and telling his audience to physically assault their enemies - collating black politicians as "unintelligent", instigating physical attacks on the press.

And if we're going to talk about fabricated racial animus? Our president ran the following paid ad in the failing New York Times - damning five innocent black kids and spectacularly contributing to the destruction of their lives.

A made up story. An elaborate and expensive falsehood. Pushed by a TV personality unconcerned by its veracity or the right to a trial, to exacerbate racial tension and hatred. And appeared on every show that he could to damn them on TV. He never even apologized btw, or even admitted he was wrong.

The stupid thing is that the two things aren't unrelated - this is not whataboutism - it's a divide that's been pushed nonstop -- and that's why people are on edge.

Any poster who got unfairly banned should be unbanned imo, but people are on eggshells because people are deliberately throwing out eggs.

And if he's guilty and doesn't have a really really amazing excuse (I can't even think of a ludicrous one) he'll have created disproportionate harm and resentment and hatred and frankly taken advantage of a societal harm. I've never played Catherine before, and that type of game does not interest me at all. But I did skim through the whole linked thread and that stuff does not offend me. I've never boycotted any type of media, and doubt I ever will. I have no personal interest in the Catherine game, but not because of the OP's reasons.

As for Persona, I've played a couple of them. Regarding bullying scenes, that's totally realistic when you're talking about a high-school setting. In fact it would be *extremely weird* to have a video game about high school social life, without any bullying whatsoever and every kid buddy-buddy with each other. That would feel very off and break immersion as far as I'm concerned.
