While both Reddit and 8chan banned pedo shit 5 years ago, it's notable that the content Reddit has provided in the years since is: all the subreddits
And 8chan has provided...literally Gamergate, which was banned on 4chan. I don't see what's defensible about it. It doesn't have any other purpose other than to be an off-site for things that gets threads deleted on 4chan.
Reading this I actually just went there to poke around
To say there's a lot of reprehensible shit would be an understatement but honestly? It says there are 18,000 boards, which I assume means the equivalent of 18,000 subreddits
I went to the comics section and there was discussion about comics and looked like a thread for illegally sharing comics
I went to Star Wars and there was Star Wars talk, and I went to Star Trek and there was Star Trek talk
There was a thread saying "if Star Trek is the future, why don't they seem to have anime anymore"
There's a cooking board where the top thread was extolling the virtues of slow cookers
So in general it just looks like wild west reddit
And there looked like a lot of boards that nobody should ever visit but likewise there are many, many subreddits that nobody should ever visit
This is not endorsing the site in any way but from a brief look I would say "Gamergate and no other purpose" is reductive
