It's crazy to think that it's literally been like a year or 2 since the concept of rockstars fucking teenagers even registered as a thing to be concerned about. My kneejerk reaction is to think retcon-ing that shit is lame, but then you think about it.. and.. it's fucked up lol.
Its like the hollywood casting couch, which literally everyone knew about long before #metoo and weinstein got got
Which on one level, it's obviously... yeah, thats some fucked up shit.
But on another, would you suck weinstein dick for instant fame, cover of people magazine, and a $4million pay check for a couple of months work being yourself on camera
Have people become more holistic with their approach to this sort of thing?
I feel like in the past people only looked at any individual situation like you just did above and shrugged whereas now there is analysis of how that behavior essentially creates a system by which men's dicks become the gatekeeprs for women to achieve success.
Maybe, or maybe its just the sense of scale has changed.
I don't think anyone ever thought the casting couch was a
good thing - its always been seen as sleazy, exploitative and manipulative.
But its also something perceived as something people didn't
have to do. It was like a get rich quick scheme.
You suck a fat old producers dick, you get rapid career progression, fame and money. You don't, you do the hard yards of slowly building up a portfolio of bitparts, tv roles, stage awards, etc.
Now, this system
is inherently unfair on women, because women in hollywood have a
really short window where they can get leading lady status, and there are fewer leading lady parts anyway - as soon as they hit 30 their best roles are going to be "sassy spinster friend" or "love interest for a dude twice their age" until they've aged enough to get mom roles (which are still not going to be the lead).
But underlining allllllllllll of that was "yeah, but its fucking hollywood, so who really gives a shit what they do to themselves" because most people aren't on hollywood hours for hollywood money living in hollywood houses and driving hollywood cars and theres only so much sympathy you can have that someone ostensibly
not that talented 'had' to suck a dick for instant fame and fortune, when you have single mothers pulling double shifts struggling to make ends meet.
But nowadays you have parasocial relationships where people care more about some bluetick on twitter and feel they know them better than they do members of their own family
