tbh, i really don't get that iglesias tweet but seeing "pmc" in reference to educated upper classes bred to effectively manage us just makes me think of mgs. who/what ivy league profs is he referencing as being concerned about these people "infiltrating" political movements?

The tweet means that it's dumb to worry about having highly educated people in your party because they're smart and are more likely to know how to run the country, i.e. the typical technocratic stance. As you point out, he's not considering that the people in question might be molded to hold particular viewpoints or have lives starkly different from working class existence

Basically the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) has a membership that is widely believed to be whiter and has more education than the working class as a whole which is understandably a source of much angst and self-criticism when your politics is centered around the emancipation and self-determination of the working class. Matt Yglesias, who believes that politics should be centered around the wisdom of highly educated dipshits like himself, thinks this angst is silly.

Reed also was a founder of the US Labor party and is probably worth knowing just because of his influence on the US left

A lot of Frost's ideas come from Reed. For example the preeminence of class, the need for a labor party, community is bad.

Just read one of the problematic Adolph Reed essays and while I agreed with it in principle it really undercuts his thesis knowing that BLM ended up creating some pretty good actionable proposals, some genuine reforms, and a diverse coalition of people... anyway I want those ten minutes back
