Lol the online is literally a carbon copy of New Leaf's. Only difference is Dodo Codes which are optional.

I love it though. :lawd

Ahh fyi there's 44 total emotes (press Y after pressing Zr.) What I liked about the New Leaf system is there was a consistent way to get them... play 40 days in a row and give Shrunk a fruit. The new system is less obvious, which should actually please AC diehards, but I kinda want all emotes as quick as possible lol. Online was a big incentive for me to unlock as many as I could.

It feels like everyone has the same fruit this time.

I've only seen people with oranges, peaches, and apples this time. Not one person with cherries or durians or something. It's bizaare.

I started with pear and mom sent cherries

If the online is stable enough for one of us to host 7 other people during, say, a Bore horror flick streaming sesh, I say we make ACNH our new official platform.

Yeah ocean fish are the bees knees. Haven't gotten an oarfish yet though. Yeah I remember the wood bucket thing at your store and didn't know what it meant. Thought it meant it was on sale. Guess you have to make it and then sell it. That's cool.

Those orange man-faced stink bugs are 1k bells each 👀

2nd and 3rd levels have a lot of flowers with them too. Though the garden outside my house is coming in nicely. :3

But yeah like Spencer I mostly fished, hard to beat red snappers. My new northern room will be useful to hoard turnips.

Also my Hot Item today is a Log Bench. That one's pretty simple to craft at least.

Ah protip the Miles cards for donated fish/bugs/fossils tells you how many you've donated/assessed. I was a bit out of sorts since the Museum usually has a title plaque showing what's been donated and I couldn't find it. Yesterday I stupidly ran around to each of the signs and counted my donations manually. 😬

But having them in the Nook Miles app you can pull up everywhere is a bit better. Also I love the Critterpedia in this game!

Tending flowers~

Nook has me setting up three houses and I just built my first bridge.

The bridge and Museum instantly improve the game and start making it feel a lot more like an AC game. I knew exactly where I wanted my bridge to go too (I stupidly put Nook's Cranny across a river!) No longer an issue. :)

Turnips are 103 bells here 👀

If they're using the same algorithms as New Leaf then I should probably hold... I'd only make an 8 bell-per-turnip profit.

Ok I’ve known about Animal Crossing for years but never played it. Been bored at home and watching reviews. Can anyone tell me what the appeal is? It’s not very game-y, which I don’t know necessarily mind. I like town/business simulation games like Game Dev Story and Cities Skylines. Is that the same underlying thing going on here, but just way more chill?

That video is mainly kidding, but there is a lot of it that is kinda true. There is a lot to love and it is probably one of the best games on the Switch, but it's really divisive and there is a chance you don't like it. Resale value will be very high for a while, just get retail and if you don't vibe can sell with minimal loss. If you end up liking it you'll get hundreds of hours in.

I actually really like it, haven't dug too many since the original.

Animal Crossing is a chill game about routine and collecting things. You want to keep your town and villagers happy while continually growing it. There's really nothing like it except Harvest Moon or Shenmue.

Watch this video. It's quite long though, 16 minutes.

I can't really explain the appeal of Animal Crossing very well, personally. I tell everyone who's curious to give it a try. The series shares little DNA with pretty much every other game in its designated genre, so it's hard for me to say "if you like X, you'll like Animal Crossing." The games can be divisive (Triumph has been mercifully silent on all things AC these past few years... 😬), but honestly the best way to find out if you like it is to try it.

Btw figured this out kinda early but you can mash A to speed up the crafting animation (I actually rock A and B back and forth really quickly.) The crafting system in this game reminds me of MH in a couple ways lol.
