Basically any device that runs PS1 games (including PSP/PS2/PS3 and my shitty PC emulator to play Dragonball games with back in high school) run PS1 games better than the PS Classic does.

Running games at 50hz with a 60hz output and that sound reverb glitch.... what the fuck were they thinking.

In terms of quality/cost of controllers and core hardware, is it possible to just overwrite the content with whatever you like? Or is it all un-write-able?

if its that easy to boot ISOs might as well just plug in a USB HDD and have every PS1 game on there (or all the good ones)

Seems to me this thing has too many negatives to the point where the ol “just make an emu box” line really carries some weight here

I keep seeing weird knock off gameboy things advertised on Facebook and it makes me want to just do the research on what hardware is out there and build a custom portable emu thingy, ground up. Might be a fun garage proj

I've already got a GPD WIN 2 for portable emulation fun, but just went and ordered a RetroPi kit tonight.  Costs less than the PS Classic, too.

The SNES Classic has hardware capable of emulating the PlayStation better than the PS Classic does.  :doge

Raspberry Pi 3B or Zero + Solar Pi + buttons/3D printer shell. Final destination.

Enjoy.

I was so excited for the Spawn and the Fifth Element games. The magazine I was reading back then hyped them up so much prerelease. I especially remember The Fifth Element to be a glorious trainwreck. :lawd

Looks like doing this means no 2P games, unless you can get an adapter for the micro-USB power port and run a stick from there.

But no thanks- I'm about to go ahead and get this Raspberry Pi kit set up instead.

Loved that shit back then.  Totally blown away.  2.5D game before there were 2.5D games.

As for Mickey Mania, that game sucked ass when compared to Castle of Illusion....  It's still the best Mickey game.

Has anyone asked Sony why they've emulated 50hz games even though 60hz versions are available?

What was the fucking point. Did they want to make it as horrible as possible or did they torrent the wrong rom pack?

They wanted to have the same console for all markets that the multi language games can be sold in, IIRC.

...Still fucking stupid.  Note that the Japanese version games all apparently run at 60 fps.

So I now got some things like Jumping Flash 2 on other platforms/services, since this thing was only good to reignite my interest in some lesser known titles. Too bad I hate strategy, because Final Fantasy Tactics is surprisingly cheap to get.

Cutting the Pi to fit it into this physically hurts me. Also why does all this when you can just get a PS-esque shell for the Pi?

I wonder if I could combine that 40% off coupon with a price match at Target. You're not supposed to, but you could ask for a price match and then pay with the Target wallet app which is one barcode tied to you Target Redcard.

But it also ties into your cartwheel coupon.

https://old.reddit.com/r/classicmods/comments/abupug/bleemsync_dev_vlog_3_successfully_enabling_back/

BleemSync (basically PS's "Hakchi") is making great progress. They figured out how to use the back USB port for splitters for USB Storage (instead of the current method of using the player 2 port), and it looks like they are on their way of providing means of adding/removing games from the internal memory as well.

That said, since this is using an already open-source emulator, theres no reason to buy one if you already have a Rasp Pi or even use any other method of emulating PS1 games.

Retroarch does allow you to use your PS3/PS4 controllers plugged into the PSC though, I believe.

I got one for $40 and don't regret it.  It's pretty nice once you "hack" it.  I've been playing a lot of the wrestling games, War Zone in particular.

FYI I found that Sandisk thumb drives work a lot better than other brands for whatever reason.  Also (unless something's changed) there is a memory and/or game limit.  I can use 64GB drives with about 200 games fine, but 128 GB sticks or more than about 200 games won't work, it'll just go to the standard PS1 Classic lineup.

I am kind of tempted at $30.  :thinking

These are pretty cool, I am going to end up with like 4 mini systems I don't play. These are good for family gatherings when I don't want to bother with the real systems though.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely going to be putting my own games on there and will use an 8bitdo for full controller support and Ape Escape.  LOL at that shit default line-up.
