You have to make sure your account actually saves sent PMs, which I don't think is the default setting. If you do that, there should be a sent tab.

Press Start, then press B. Move the map cursor to the far side of the screen but don't click on the icon.
Instead press select. Use a large potion, equip a small shield and cast fire. (in that order)

Now when you return to the game you will have recovered all your PM's.
