I really thought my text version of surprised Pikachu would have 10+ likes this morning  :(

It's brilliant. Easily as good as some trash in the "Post your nude pic" thread that gets double digit likes.
for some reason I have a near zero amount of interest in seeing what you guys look like. Not sure if it's cause I'm afraid I'd send thirsty DMs or salty DMs

You cant expect everyone, especially Dan who is deeply invested in the product, to just jump out and not support it any more because people are finally realizing how shitty they are. Its like asking an alcoholic to quit drinking because its bad.

I think the MGS talk was what broke the camel's back and then when we were recovering the fucking newsletter broke it for good.

I guess if you pretend watching wrassling is literally the same as being an alcoholic, then you get to sideline those pesky moral values you extol everywhere else, at every opportunity, because you're just powerless to a higher power.
Shit its almost a medical condition.

I don't think anybody really cares about what Dan does on his own time... There's a big difference between watching and enjoying the WWE at home and using an official company communication from your employer to defend and handwave the racist and misogynist company dealing with a murderous regime as just "resulting in bad tv"

Quote
Quote
"Using an official company communication" sounds funny to me. Dan has talked about his enjoyment of WWE in every type of content Giant Bomb produces.
And it has always been a problem too lol

and now we get to the actual issue. this dude (Megasoum, blocked on twitter by GB staff for being a sex pest probably) just doesn't like Dan talking about wrestling and is using this as an excuse to try and force the other staff to stop him via wokeness. :lol

https://www.resetera.com/threads/we-need-guns-because-police-is-2-hours-far-from-here.120604/post-21382383

Quote
The number one statistic to understand about guns is that if you have one in your home, you are far likelier to die by accidental or deliberate gun violence than if you don't. Now, that statistic may beg a lot of questions and infer a lot of negative space, or negative proofs, but the numbers are so overwhelming that actuarial data suggests that on average, regardless of where you live, regardless of the crime or danger perceived, the mere act of keeping the gun in your home or on your person creates a gigantic leap in danger of mortal firearm encounters.

You can do a lot to reduce the risks. You can keep the weapon unloaded, partially disassembled in a gun safe. You can keep the ammo in a separately secured spot. You can keep a gun at home and only connect it with ammo when you begin your lawful activity - range shooting, hunting, whatever. But the number does not vanish. If you polled American gun owners today with the following question:

Are you a safe and responsible gun owner?

I think you'd get very close to 100% yes. Just as you would get 100% "no" if you polled Trump voters and asked them if they harbored racist feelings.

One argument you'll hear frequently from gun owners who don't outright ignore the data (data which itself is extremely faulty and likely worse than we think thanks to the Dickey amendment and other data oppression legislation bought and paid for by the NRA and thus gun manufacturers) is that guns don't kill people, and that Switzerland and Canada have more guns per person and they don't have our gun deaths. Well, the first part is false. Americans have VASTLY more guns per person than either country - Switzerland has about 27 guns per 100 people - America has 120 guns per 100 people (!!) Swiss gun owners must by law submit to rigorous gun safety training - in the US you can go to a gun show and buy whatever you like with cash. From a folding table. Anything from a 45 caliber pistol with an extended mag and in some places - a silencer - to a powerful .mBMG Barret M82 semi automatic, or even a .700 Nitro Express.

That's right. A 90 pound pre-serum Steve Rogers can go buy this at a hastily setup convention center and shoot it without any training. Thankfully Chris Rock's bullet cost idea is in effect and it's $120 a round. But if Ruth Bader Ginsburg shot this thing she'd be blasted directly out of her frock and clean back to the Civil Rights era.

The second part, that it's a culture issue is true. We kill each other more. So we should think about what that means. At the very least, it means that the wrong people are able to get a hold of guns. And that's the number one thing we can and should address.

I deliberately showed videos of responsible, safe gun enthusiasts wearing the appropriate protection in safe environments, all properly trained and in one case, physically capable of controlling an otherwise uncontrollable force. But they are not necessarily representative of most or even a lot of gun owners. They are not the problem. They are not troubled people who act on impulses or deep seated resentments or perceived infractions or sudden temper flareups or planned revenge. They're not depressed people with suicidal ideation who realize that instant peace is available with the squeeze of a trigger, or toddlers finding a loaded pistol in their garage. They are not Wal-Mart customers in rascals dropping a 45 with a hair trigger from the back of their oversize jorts and killing the lady in line buying milk, they are not religious extremists with a 90 day tourist visa looing for infamy or martyrdom. They're not a husband startled awake by a sound in the living room who accidentally shoots his sleeping wife when he grabs a loaded pistol from under his pillow - or shoots a teenager to death for swiping a TV. Or points a gun at a family having a lakeside picnic because she doesn't recognize them. They're not poverty-stricken teens escalating pointless perceived slights. They're not angry retirees overreacting in a fender bender in a city parking lot.

Easy access to guns with no requirement for meaningful background checks or even basic competency in a culture rife with difficult and confounding issues is the problem.

I love target shooting. I love clay shooting. I absolutely adore long distance rifle targets even though I'm not particularly adept at that last one. I love the design and aesthetics of some of these objects and the fun to be had at a safe range - and I imagine responsible sustainable or even necessary hunting (not for me because I'm a hypocrite and don't want to kill the food I eat) - is something I don't want to deny anybody. I usually rent weapons when I go to a range or an event. I like trying the different varieties but fundamentally I do not want the awesome responsibility of keeping one where my child lives.

But I would never, ever, ever keep a gun at home, because the numbers are just astonishingly bad. However, I don't object to the ideal of that - again, safely stored, clean, well maintained, locked safes - proper ammo storage, proper training or education. But that ideal is often a claim not lived up to.

I also work on an entertainment product that contains modern-looking percussive weapons and in that sense, celebrates their use against alien invaders and robots. But there's no hypocrisy from my perspective. We are creating a sci-fi fantasy. We punish players for the act of shooting humans and civilians. We practice trigger and weapon discipline in the fiction where warranted, or on movie sets and so on. But if anything that makes me more focused on ensuring that we embrace safety and common sense, and that's why I will continue to push my elected representatives to push for common sense safety laws - and that those laws are defined by citizens - gun owners and gun-opponents alike.

I think background checks and competency exams should be the most basic step for this country - and mandated safe storage. Accessories or weapons that have no legitimate purpose - or create heightened dangers silencers, bump-stocks, fully automatic weapons etc. should be (and are in some cases regulated.) That's it. I don't want them to take your guns away. Unless you're diagnosed with a mental illness that means you're incapable of safely owning one - or have a restraining order from your abused wife, all of that. Which is why background checks should be a federal mandate. I know people will think that's a slippery slope - but that's a fallacy.

Oh and fix the wording on the Second Amendment. It's wonky and archaic. Update it to say what the country agrees it should mean. Whether that leans into or away from A Well Regulated Militia, is less important to me than it have a clear and distinct modern meaning that can be applied fairly and evenly and contain a proper intent. An ill-defined comma is not an idea. It is not an intent. You wouldn't accept that in an essay, and you shouldn't accept it in a law.

I couldn't give less of a shit about Halo, and got bored playing the first one really early on, wandering corridor after identical looking corridor.

But as I understand it, aren't the bad guy you gun down with abandon fleshed out into not actually bad guys, and you move onto a whole different set of bad guys to gun down with abandon?

Because

Peter Cetera is genuinely convinced that 8chan is hosting child pron on its servers and sharing it like a plate of brownies at a staff party.

1. Did THQ directly link and signal boosted a site known for linking to child pornography, both fictitious and real, for around 15 hours on their social media platform? - Yes
2. Did the act increase traffic to the site? - Yes
3. Did the act increase the number of users to the site - Likely, how much is unknown
4. If someone linked those videos of me to the site, is there a chance, no matter how small, that the additional users that the site likely received can cause more redistribution of that material? More so than usual? - Yes
5. Did this event effect my own mental health by making me afraid that more people might have seen, downloaded, and shared that material of me? - Yes, it even brought up my PTSD episodes and forced me to make more therapy appointments as usual.

The fact that the mods allow and condone all the thread shitting/derailing in a thread that has nothing do to with THQN's 8chan debacle is exactly why the industry thinks REE is a joke. They care more about letting the pissbaby wokeatrons run the show than discussing video games on a video game forum.

I find it astounding that these Ms.Galaxy brains haven't figured out that if 8chan was hosting or linking to child pornography that the feds would have closed that site down already since it's based in the US.

No, I went there after the Christchurch shooting to see what the guy had said. Not only was everyone there praising him as a hero, one of the posts did have what appeared to be child pornography, at which point I nope'd out of there. It likely eventually got removed, but the fact that I ran across it on my one visit says to me it's very likely there pretty often. 8chan really is a cesspool.

That being said, putting all of 8chan's flaws onto THQ because of an AMA is absolutely absurd.

Also, ftfy.

maybe you have them confused with another site? my understanding is that the mods aren't tough enough and need to get even stricter, at least that's what all the banned dopes say

Man...I actually think after this thread era is going to put the brakes on the train

The thread is completely derailed and now talking about Dragon Quest's Sugiyama while demisexual Galaxy is throwing a pity party

Considering how much they like to control threads for veering into off-topicness and "likelihood of producing valuable discussion" either the copypasta is getting banned or THQN is, it's one or the other

But either choice will have A GROUP OF PEOPLE LEAVING IN DROVES so I don't know

They're going to go to Cerium and say look we need you to make an executive decision

Quote from: Ms.Galaxy
You know what's funny, I said back when this shit was fresh on everyone's mind that THQ will likely get away with it and people will just not care about victims like me, they'd just move on.

What I didn't expect is for some people to actually openly mock those that do still care and even go as far as to dismiss the concerns of those that are effected by it, on this forum of all places too. Not only on this thread, but on other THQ threads since.

Just, fuck me, right? It's one thing for people to ignore your concerns, it's another to actively get laughed at for caring or saying get over it. Man, I just woke up and I'm already tired. Might go to bed soon.

I have seen what CAN happen in my own country. A polician got a vomit and shit pie. Later he got shot in the head.
I don't know where you are, but things like that are extremely rare here.

If you're wondering, seems the guy is referencing Pim Fortuyn's murder.

I don't lose sleep at night over milkshakes but ERA definitely wants to have it both ways when it comes to that stuff.

Most THQN threads up to this point have been fairly normal until you finally get THAT POST and then several people respond saying "really? we doing this again?" and it goes back and forth a little

The difference now is you have people posting how they're anxiously awaiting the copypasta

"oh boy that guy's gonna come and do the thing!"

"grab your popcorn everyone"

they really don't have a lot of choices on how to handle this

E3 should be great
