That Games Journalist who works for the company Freelance (never heard of it) is getting absolutely dragged for being an idiot

https://www.resetera.com/threads/verge-gearbox-confirms-chris-hardwick-will-reprise-role-for-borderlands-3.121084/post-21471529

Well, he's technically right in one aspect. The act of accusing someone of wrongdoing and the act of giving testimony of someone's wrongdoing is the same. It's just that the forum is different. And both are a form of evidence, i.e., something that would nudge you toward believing something has some likelihood of being true. It's more likely that someone accused of rape is a rapist than someone who has no such accusations leveled against them.

But where he's wrong is in the substance of what people mean when they say they don't believe accusations "without evidence." What they mean is they won't participate in a public crucifixion of someone without substantial or sufficient or corroborating evidence. Typically when someone has 10 accusations from 10 different people leveled against them, we tend to think, yeah, this has a good chance of being true. But for normal people, a single accusation is too easy to abuse, so we don't find a single accusation to be substantial evidence, but rather grounds for reasonable suspicion that warrants further investigation.

This "freelance journalist" thinks believing every accusation a woman makes even without any further corroborating evidence--and then punishing the accused--is prudent. And for that, he's an idiot.

Would you not make me defend Tucker freaking Carlson?

You cut off "So says New Criterion editor James Panero." from your quote. The opening you quoted is a summary of his guest's argument. Anchors and hosts with guests do this "X claim. So says our guest." format all the time to introduce their guest. It doesn't mean the host believes X claim.

Then during the actual interview, Carlson just seems amused and seems to be playing along. The whole segment is clearly at least partially facetious. I don't doubt he feels superiority and/or comfort in the 'Murican system he knows, but he probably doesn't take it seriously, and is clearly exaggerating for laughs. He even deliberately pronounces kilograms as "kie-low-grams" with emphasis to give the impression he's never heard the word. It's clearly a joke.

you'd think the point at which a spongebob thread needs heavy moderation guidelines would make them question whether their board might have taken a wrong turn at some point.
Meanwhile OT is slipping. Wonder Woman poster thread is up to 3 pages with nary a mention of Gal Gadot slaughtering children.

OFFICIAL STAFF COMMUNICATION
Since it keeps coming up, we'd like to clarify a few things about ASilentProtagonist.

This member has previously been warned/banned on three separate occasions for pretending to have insider information and refusing to back up those claims or ignoring staff who tried to verify his information.

Given the level of attention on this thread we put our foot down this time and demanded answers. ASP admitted that he has always been speculating and was never any kind of insider, so we asked him to edit his posts to make that clear here. Because this has happened so many times before, we also felt that a ban was necessary as well.

I don't know whether ASP just got carried away by excitement and attention, or whether he intentionally sought to deceive, but misleading members by emulating people like Omnipotent - who was very cooperative and provided evidence that they know what they are talking about - is not cool at all. I hope that clears things up.

User Banned (1 Week): Dismissive Commentary Surrounding A Site with Child Pornography

Aside from holding a mostly harmless ama, THQ Nordiq are pretty great. They're basically forgiven for being an idiot before in my eyes, hope Timesplitters is next.

User Banned (3 Days): Modwhining, ignoring staff post, driving thread derailment

This is what the mod policy creates.

User banned (duration pending): Off-site drama, inflammatory false equivalences and generalizations.

Guilty by Association is a bitch though. I mean...many of us posted on NEOGAF for years and mods on that forum collected and distributed child porn. And I don't think we should be faulted for that association. THQN needs to fire those responsible, but them specifically.

I know but damn in a spongebob topic tho
It is pretty fucked up that we know pedophiles & pedophile apologists are working on a Spongebob game that kids everywhere will be picking up, ain't it?
Quote
Its fucked up that you believe every individual that works there are pedophiles
Come on bruh dont try to bait me with that trash
Obviously I'm not saying everyone there's a pedophile; I don't know where you're getting that (Unless it's your ass). But there were enough people at THQNordic willing to let their company hold an AMA on 8Chan. The site made up of people banned from child porn-lloving 4Chan for going to far. The site Google has blacklisted because there's entire forums dedicated towards teaching new child predators how to avoid getting caught & to inflict more suffering on the kid. The site where THQNordic staff responded that they have "big-tittied lolis."

So yes. This is fucked up & absolutely should be in every topic pertaining to games they make that are targeting minors.
Quote
Wait, who are the pedophiles that are working on the game? Did I miss something?
They were not only on 8Chan in the first place, but engaged people asking them about "big-tittied lolis" & responded "yeah" when asked if THQ Nordic had any.
:science

spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's super fucked up. One would think that there should be awareness out there that a children's game is being made by people who throw their hat in with Pedophiles and people that facilitate the spreading of child porn. Not to mention Nazis and Terrorists.

Fuck THQ.

Let's go for a roundup:

Quote from: User Banned (1 Day): Trolling
]THQ!!!!!!!

FUCK..........

YEAH!!!!!!

Quote from: User Banned (Duration Pending): Dismissing concerns surrounding bigotry and abuse, antagonizing other members, account still in junior phase
What does being abused have to do with THQ Nordic? They did an AMA on 8chan because its similar to /v/ except the posts on there last a lot longer, they used it because the audience are known to be gatekeepers to Eurojank games.

Quote from: User Banned (1 Week): Dismissive Commentary Surrounding A Site with Child Pornography
Aside from holding a mostly harmless ama, THQ Nordiq are pretty great. They're basically forgiven for being an idiot before in my eyes, hope Timesplitters is next.

Quote from: User banned (3 days): hostility against other members
The people making the spongebob game didn't host the AMA and have no control over the guy that did. But that doesn't matter because the CEO didn't apologize hard enough I guess, so every dev attached is also complicit according to idiots on era

Quote from: User banned (permanent): attacking other members over experienced abuse
Why do you constantly keep posting about your tragic experiences as a child that in no way relates to any of this? I'm sorry that stuff happened to you, I really am but at a point it your hate for THQ doesn't seem too genuine and it feels like you just want people to feel sorry for you. Nobody is going to stop buying games form THQ because of an event that happened to you that a game publisher had no part in.

Quote from: User Banned (2 Weeks): Ignoring Staff Post; Dismissive Commentary and Antagonizing Other Users Over Multiple Posts; Previous Ban for Similar Behavior
Honestly i still think most of you guys are blowing this out of proportion. It's sound like most of you believe that you simply become a criminal by being invited to a well known criminal organisation and publish a interview with one of them that has nothing to do with their actual organisation.

Quote from: User Banned (5 Days): Modwhining and attacks against staff

and it's awesome:
Quote
Why is Nickelodeon working with a alt-right company that jumped in bed with the pedo?
Quote
Naaah. After reading what Ms.Galaxy went through and how 8chan is a home to that type of stuff this really isn't a company worth supporting no matter what they publish. If you aren't taking action against people organising an AMA on a paedophile haven then you're a scumbag company.
Quote
Presumably, you think the people who care about THQN's accountability for legitimizing a pedophile website would feel bad about a game they published being successful.
So what you're saying is you want to see people that care about companies being responsible for their own actions feel bad.
Quote from: bluexy, Verified Freelance Games Journalist, he/him
I don't hang out. I think it's important to acknowledge the product of THQ Nordic hosting its AMA on 8chan. So many people here dismiss it without looking at the reality of the situation. Hopefully, a look at the reality of it will change some minds. That AMA doesn't exist in a vacuum. It had consequences. And part of that is a cloud of hate and harassment following their products, targeting vulnerable communities and those who would call out THQ Nordic's actions. And at this point it's unlikely that even a meaningful effort by THQ Nordic to condemn this will change things.
Quote
"Are you ready kids" over the THQ logo is fucking creepy.

Nah, peoples need to know they money supporting a company that promoted a site involved with 2 mass shootings, child porn, homophobia and racism.

You don't have to care, but own that shit if you wanna fund em with your dollars.

this guy is taking it harder than Ms.Galaxy:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I LOVE BATTLE FOR BIKINI BOTTOM SO MUCH

BUT I WILL NOT SUPPORT SUCH AN AWFUL COMPANY

GET A COPY OF THE PS2 VERSION, THEY WON’T GET YOUR MONEY AND YOU’LL STILL PLAY THIS IMMACULATE SUCCESSOR TO MARIO 64

WHY DOES THE WORLD TORMENT ME SO
It’s my heart breaking in half, that’s what it is.

Seriously, don’t buy this, people. It’s not worth any measure of quality to actively support people courting 8Chan, a website that has incubated countless mass shooters with impunity and host to about as much dangerous content as you can think of.
No, you don’t understand, I love this game, I own this game, and I’m telling people to buy it used instead, because it’s very good but THQ is very bad.

My heart is broken because if THQ wasn’t so bad, I would be telling everyone to buy this, because I’ve wanted this for a long time, but I can’t in good conscience recommend giving money to a company that’s willing to legitimize this.

https://www.polygon.com/platform/amp/2019/2/26/18241827/thq-nordic-ama-8chan-apology-backlash

Videogames are not more important then human lives, and legitimizing 8Chan puts more and more lives at risk, while providing them social cover for all the disgustingly evil stuff that’s propagated over there.

Don’t buy from THQ!
It’s important to know what bad people are saying, so we can fight it better. Ignoring 4Chan is fine, (and good for your health) but sometimes you need to know something awful, even if you can guess it.

Nobody should have to go to places like 4chan, or be expected to do so to help. That’s why it’s good that one or two people can relay info without everyone needing to get it and risk helping those bad people with more views.

my favorite part of those posts, and thanks to brand new user BisMarckie for bringing this up so I didn't have to find my old post, especially in the context of the jeremiad against THQNordic using their claimed experience as justification:
Should we celebrate these people for resisting their urges? In my opinion, yes, because they're struggling to overcome not only lust and taboo, but also society's label on them as monsters that need to be executed for even having thoughts. In fact, it's that latter that causes most of them to struggle with it. If we live in a world where society was more sympathetic toward pedophiles and accept that it's a psychological condition that needs to be treated, than research would progress, new treatment methods would be discovered, and pedophiles would have a way to help themselves while child sex crime start to dwindle down. In fact, more pedophile would actively seek out help instead of living in fear where the thoughts would fester until they actually commit the crime and/or kill themselves.

The topic here is that we, as a society, needs to stop demonizing and assuming that all pedophiles will always rape children. These are people with a condition that needs help, and demonizing is just going to make things worse.
And also assuming that they want to view Portuguese child pornography or child pornography of any kind! Right? We should celebrate THQNordic for reaching out to these people and helping to bring them into the light!

Just on resetera that poster has claimed to be a gay, trans, non-binary, demisexual, furry who was put through a religious sexual reeducation camp, an immigrant, a naturalised citizen, with friends (plural) who killed themselves because donald trump was elected and who has personally seen people (plural) leave the gaming industry entirely due to gamergate harrassment.

Now all of these claims might well be true, in addition to their few days being kidnapped at 7, abused and filmed then returned.

But those are some claims when taken together.

AA Spongebob games that were mediocre to children on release sure do bring out the heat somehow.
FACT CHECK:
Quote
THQ(R) Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) today announced that SpongeBob SquarePants(TM): Battle for Bikini Bottom for the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system has been added to Sony Computer Entertainment America's "Greatest Hits" collection and is now available at retailers throughout North America for the low price of $19.99. Developed by THQ's internal studio, Heavy Iron Studios(R), and based on the top-rated show on kids TV, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom originally launched in fall 2003 and has sold more than 1.25 million copies to date.

The game is also now available for the suggested retail price of $19.99 for the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft and the Nintendo GameCube(R), under similar bestseller programs.

"We are thrilled with the worldwide sales success and critical acclaim of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom," said Tiffany Ternan, senior vice president, North American sales and distribution, THQ. "Now the reduced price point of $19.99 will allow more SpongeBob fans to experience this fun and humorous interactive version of the TV show, while enjoying classic platform gameplay."

be warned, while the remake is getting a proper PC version, the already existing PC version is some garbage edutainment type thing and not the platformer on the consoles

that happened a lot that gen (as did garbage ports where nobody upscaled the menus), one of the fucking Spider-Man games is like that IIRC

Nah it's more like flat earth shit. There's always going to be that 0.1% of the population who are just so brain-damaged they will believe something because they have to believe the conspiracy.

The difference is that flat earthers don't actually believe that the earth is flat, they just think it's hilarious when people lose their shit arguing with them.

Nah, I highly recommend the doc on netflix about flat earthers; its genuinely hilarious, and there are people who believe the earth is flat enough to spend not inconsiderate amounts of time and money trying to scientifically prove their thesis.

A dangerous anti-science and alt-right adjacent belief that needs to be deplatformed is not hilarious. :wag

Nah some of them definitely do believe it. People who think the government is out to get them, conspiracy theorists, people with low-grade schizophrenia, and all the garden variety simpletons who believe it because they can't wrap their smooth, wet brains around gravitational pull.

The guy who rocked up at that Pizza restaurant with an assault rifle didn't "do it for the lulz". He was so fucking stupid he legitimately thought there was a Democratic sex-trafficking ring.
