A: There is no Scarlet Witch in the MCU. There is a Wanda Maximoff. Dr Strange (film) is not included in the project. He first appears in Infinity War. This was acceptable because he gives Tony Stark a clear introduction and even cites the purpose for his heroism, to "protect their reality."  With norse deities, there is a huge canonical issue in the MCU surrounding the Asguardians. In Thor, it is indicated twice that the Asguardians received their "deity" label by primitive humans who would have worshiped them as gods in response to their power. In Thor: The Dark World, Odin emphatically and categorically says to Loki, "We are not gods." In Thor: Ragnarok, these pieces of information are completely ignored and without explanation, the Asguardians, including Odin, are now referring to themselves and each other as gods. Such canonical errors were addressed in the Super-Movie by removing all of the self-references to deity made by the Asguardians to keep consistent with the story lines in Thor 1 & 2. Appearances by and mentions of Wakandan deities have been removed entirely.

Like movies? Me too. Have moral standards? Me too. That’s why I don’t watch many movies. But one day, about 7 years ago, I went to see Marvel’s The Avengers in theaters. I didn’t have any backstory but I knew I had just watched one of the greatest movies of all time. Realizing I needed context, I watched the first phase of Marvel films and then re-watched The Avengers. Now I KNEW I had watched the greatest movie of all time. (at least in my humble opinion)

One thing was keeping me from enjoying it to the fullest though. It was the stuff that earned it a PG-13 rating. A little cursing here, a few “OMG’s” there, and a never-repeated, but present, sex scene at the beginning of the journey. I googled for a way to watch movies with content like that cut out and I found it. Services like Clearplay and Vidangel offer real-time, customizable censoring for content you don’t want to see or hear in famous movies. It was handy, but it stunk. To remove a swear word, the program often removed half a sentence and cut the video in a way that made it look like your internet was freezing. This created a choppy, poor viewing experience as my attention was drawn only to the bad editing moments, which were all of them.

Then, one day, it hit me. I’m tech savvy. If they can edit stuff out of a movie, why can’t I? I was sure I could at least do a better job then those services. So I grabbed a copy of Iron Man, threw it in my video editor, and the results surprised me. While I was doing a “better” job, I did something really cool with one of the edits early on. I did a PERFECT job. What do I mean by perfect? I mean, if you were watching the scene for the first time, you would never know there was an edit. I was shocked that this was possible and now I was ready to reach for the stars.

I edited a few scenes from different Marvel movies and started showing them to friends and family without telling them I had altered the footage. Some were MCU fans, some were not. Some were tech savvy, some were not. Though they all had one thing in common, their response to the footage I showed them. I showed them a 3 minute clip that contained 6 edits. At the end of the clip, I disclosed the truth, that I had edited 6 curse words from the scene. All were shocked. They had no idea. As far as they knew, they were watching a movie “straight outta Hollywood.” Then the ultimate test, I edited an entire movie, brought it home, and watched it with my wife. She noticed a couple of imperfections so I was determined to make it right. I upped my editing skills and tried again and I kept trying until I got it right. A few months later, I showed her not one, but several movies, at the end of which she responded “It was so unnoticeable, I totally forgot you edited anything.” Family and friends, after watching several movies themselves, had the same response.

The MCU Super-Movie was born and I didn’t stop with just editing content. I threw it in chronological order and turned it into one big movie, fixed some mistakes that Marvel made (and admits they made), and I even set out to improve the video quality of earlier releases that were very grainy.

So where am I now? Well, I’m more than half way done and I’m posting project updates on facebook.
