Maybe they do have a rock solid case, I'm not saying they don't.  To assume they do is assinine.  Johnny is being declared an innocent victim already even on places like Resetera where men aren't exactly assumed to be victims in cases like this... in that sense the defamation suit is already a success.

I've never said anything about his innocence. Only hers. His innocence or guilt is irrelevant as to her lying under oath considering this kind of broad based evidence.

And yes, no legal team of the cost that Depp is paying would file a case like this without it being basically bulletproof. Most standard defamation side-filings probably are bulletproof too but go weak on the claims they are making (either that or absurdly broad) because they're not intended to destroy the other person but to protect the person filing. In this case they've all but basically ignored Heard's potential defamation of Depp to focus on destroying her claim as to her own character. That would suggest she refused to back down in the divorce case from the claims against Depp. She might still be telling the truth about him being abusive!

So in a way, you're right I was wrong that this isn't intended to be withdrawn, it probably is, but it's also intended to force her to settle more on Depp's terms in the divorce case. Or maybe just to settle at all. Where I was trying to indicate is that most defamation cases usually don't bring this type of evidence up front because neither side expects it to actually be litigated. It seems Depp's team are preparing for that possibility and are rolling out the biggest threat they have.

Haven't watched their Captain Marvel review yet, but that movie was fucking DULL. You can tell Marvel -really- wanted the brownie points by making the shit character that is Carol so unbeatable and perfect and flawless, which just made me angry as they've never pulled their punches with male heroes. Wonder Woman did it right, as much as the ending fight sucked.

But God, how much I hate that Marvel is doing on movies what they already did on comics by inflating Carol's importance just so they can have their own female poster hero, and they have the balls to do do that "Carol standing up" montage after they've taken like 20+ fucking movies to do a female-led superhero movie. It's not brave or ballsy, they should've been doing this shit on Phase Two. And then these people praise the movie as if they had done something groundbreaking or had even made a good movie, when they were too chickenshit to show a female superhero with flaws and troubles. No, of course, Carol is perfect, no one can harm her, and yet she is still so fucking boring the other characters have to tell you she's amazing because she never is. And they somehow believe this is feminism.

They make some good points about how her character arc is a mess. Like her "rising up" etc. would have been far more impactful if she hadn't already been snarky and confidant through a lot of the movie  (like on that Skrull ship "wanna help me get off these gloves?") It's weird because you'd think that would be the easiest part of an origin movie. Instead of learning to become a hero it's more like she learns to fight for the right side? It's not really satisfying.
