A friend of mine tagged me in a thumbnail on Facebook. It was small so you had to zoom in, but once you did it showed you like nine screenshots from the movie. I know at least two or three things that I really wish I had known before. He got put on snooze.

You might as well post a youtube tutorial on how to not kill yourself if all you're gonna do is put some bullshit phone number.

It's empty but still well intentioned. Because depression is hard, it's not like some rando on a message board is gonna have a magic wand to "solve" it with a post no matter the content.

The combination of:
1) Not being able to control yourself looking at spoilers
2) Caring a ton about not being spoiled
... is so strange to me.  I'm tempted to look at spoilers because I don't really care if I'm spoiled;  if I cared.. why in the world would I not be able to control myself to look?  lol
Desperate need to be 'part of the conversation'.

meanwhile every time they leave one of those threads open, it just ends up attracting people who say "I also want to kill myself" and that seems like a terrible thing to leave unmoderated.

This thread has veered into discussing the author rather than the article and does not seem to be producing good discussion. Thread locked.

hahaha fucking cowards.

Look, I get you eratta are all about the optics and how things aren't a good look, but yeah, a games journo doing fuck all fact checking, posting a feels-piece thats easily debunked, not fucking editing ot removing it, then going on twitter saying they "didn't choose to do that" when their personal twitter account shows they fucking did, and making vague "I'm not allowed to say what REALLY happened" claims is - OF FUCKING COURSE - going to have people talking about the author of the shitty article, not just the article itself.

So the unedited article is still up as-is and as originally posted on kotaku.

Quite the "CMS gremlin", huh?

Is it worth considering that maybe, just maybe, the author of that article and how they've handled this is in fact a subject for discussion yet, era mods?

Her behavior on twitter is also really weird. Yesterday she posted a bunch of "I'm so sorry, I feel so bad about this right now" etc. but looking at her account now those seem to be gone again. Then she announced that she'll take a break from twitter only to return a couple of hours later to tweet that she caught a shiny pokemon  :lol

She was getting shit on in the Kotaku UK comments and called a racist.  That's a pretty quick bounceback- maybe somebody at Kotaku told her that her job is still safe.  :doge

Asian people on neogaf and resetera thought the forums did a bad job addressing anti-asian racism. Mods giving them legitimate proof of that is going to keep feeding that fire.

One thing that has been bothering me...

Re-tarded(ed) is not a slur (even though Bork thinks it is).

verb (used with object)
to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede.
verb (used without object)
to be delayed.
noun
a slowing down, diminution, or hindrance, as in a machine.

Saying "you are a re-tard" is an insult. Saying "you are re-tarded" is an insult.

But "the train is re-tarded" is not an insult or slur.

Neither is "the burning of the Alexandria library re-tarded progress for centuries"

When the word is used alone, without context, it is impossible to determine if it is being used as an insult or not.

A similar example is "oriental". On its own, it is not an insult. It can refer to a rug.  If a British person uses it referring to a person, it is not a slur. If an American uses it, it is.

Also, it will be fun if a lot of Era regular users migrate to that Metamucil forum. If it gets bigger, I really can't see it working. For example, someone recommended the youtuber iDubbbz on a "youtuber recommendation thread" there. If that was on Era you would have a lot of users complaining about how he's a nazi.

Man the Epic Games Store is the new gaming side virtue signal topic.. bunch of probably US/UK people screaming about how EGS destroys the hobby for people in countries where the pricing sucks or their currency or favorite payment method isn't supported.   Get that shoved in your face if you shrug off caring about it...

... like.. we are talking about people's ability to buy foreign products.  There's loads of foreign products that are harder for me to buy in the US, or extra expensive..  are people in Japan going all over the internet brow beating anyone who shrugs at Americans whining about not getting easy access to some of their media?

"OH, you think this isn't a big deal because you can watch this Hentai easily in YOUR COUNTRY but did you think about THE FUCKING AMERICANS WHO CANT YOU FUCKING EVIL SHITHEAD!"

Someone’s still bitter about not being able to readily get Spunky Knight back in the day without an internet connection.

You don't have to solely be working off altruistic concerns of fairness to think assuming everyone in the world has a First World salary and price vidya accordingly is dumb

 - more global players = more active playerbases, which is directly beneficial to multiplayer games, and is indirectly beneficial to modding and unofficial patches
 - more global buyers = devteams more likely to survive, which is more beneficial to the niche ass indie titles that basically don't exist outside of the PC unless they hit it big, than the blockbuster bankrolled big publisher console dreck that gets made anyway if it looks fancy in a console sizzle reel
 - buying new games at cheap at shit rates day one if you know where to look, which still works out better for publishers than waiting 2 years until it hits the price you'd be willing to pay but now comes with all the aftersales shit like dlc bundled in

Also, damn at Kotaku’s ‘we fucked up’ piece. Would have loved to hear the arguing over that bullshit before it posted.

No; EGS lack of regional pricing is on the assumption a game 'should' cost what a game costs in its native first world country, even when looking at non first world country salaries make that abundantly clear that that is a fucking stupid thing to do.
Its a perfectly valid thing to criticise the EGS for, on multiple fronts ranging from the purely altruistic to the entirely selfish.

If what she says is true, then she should blame her fucking boss for it.  That doesn't make her distinguished mentally-challenged fellowed.    Everyone makes fun of how she's a shitty journalist, but it sounds like she tried to do the right thing initially by looking for Atlus' input.

I believe Laura.  Kotaku are really a bunch of fuckers.

They are, but so is she.
Maybe she needed to start another patreon to fund fixing the original story.

Finally, the original has been updated to reflect this statement and link back to this apology. However, we've recently been making back-end improvements to our site, and an unfortunate consequence is a new problem where updates are taking quite a while to appear. We will quash this gremlin but, until then, the site is slow to update. This has been the subject of conspiracy theories. Some of you simply demand that we delete the article.

Kotaku UK does not delete articles. On the internet, what would be the point anyway? We admit our mistakes, own them, and update the original to reflect new information. The original article has now been updated but, as we say, it may take a while before it shows.

We hold our hands up with this one: you deserve better, and we'll strive to do better.

Sure :lol

I never said it wasn't a valid criticism of EGS...

You might want to rethink saying "yeah but her mistakes deserve to be called out though" (at least when the mistakes aren't anywhere near bad enough to merit receiving so much shit) in response to saying someone doesn't deserve to receive a ton of abuse online.
