It must be frustrating to be a REra user that subscribes to the allowed ideas. I mean, Kingdom Come is a success, no one gave a shit about Jontron in A Hat in Time and he's still famous and growing on YouTube, PDP has 96 million subscribers, basically no one cares about THQ issues, etc. They have their victories when coincidentally they align with the majority of left/moderate people, but when they're basically the fringe of lefty politics (90% of the time) it must be quite harsh.

I mean, at least half of the world are LITERALLY nazis to them. That's a terrifying world to live in.

on top of that they continually say "deplatforming works" but I'm having a hard time finding evidence that supports that, in any sense of the phrase

if they mean "the tactics we use to deplatform someone eventually succeed," this obviously doesn't apply to JonTron, PDP, THQ, etc.

hell it doesn't even apply to that straight boy conversion makeup guy on youtube who set records for most subscribers lost, started gaining in the net positive again on May 16th, and is right back to where he was

if they mean "when someone is deplatformed, it stops the spread of their bad ideas" this is obviously not true, look at Carl of Akkad getting deplatformed off Patreon, remaining popular and then running for public office

or if you want to talk about pedophiles like Milo getting deplatformed, did that really stop the spread of things he would've said anyway, did it really do anything to stem the tide, or did others just step in to take his place

Does deplatforming work?

In the case of someone like Milo or Alex Jones, definitely... but you have to actually "deplatform" them, as in take away the platform that is making them the most money and giving them the most outreach, and then do it again with their second choice, third choice, etc... it helps that Alex and Milo are both facing existential crisisees of their own making.

Makeup guy was never deplatformed, he just weathered a storm of controversy. Carl still has YouTube, but a lot of his money has been shut down via demonetization and de-patreonization.

The problem ERA faces is that they don't actually have the power to deplatform anyone but those who post on ERA. So they can cry to Jason Schrier all they want, but if they don't have the support of a vastly larger network of lefties it's not going to happen. It's personified by that one idiot making multiple posts about Dan Rykerk's WWE newsletter and literally no one else giving any shits.

I should go back and finish majoras mask.

Also why was that game to fucking terrible?

The smaller scale after how fucking epic OoT was (at the time) really put me off the game, plus it got repetitive as shit with the time limit.

That being said, at least it had the classic Overworld theme.  I've never understood why there's seemingly been an aversion to using it from OoT on.

The only tangible accomplishment is personal retribution against the person they've deemed pariah, the ultimate high of cancel culture.

For Milo and Alex Jones, it also stops their very specific form of societal erosion (which is good)... but you're right that it doesn't stop the overall "movement", if you can call it that.

tbh I don't follow any of these people, it's all boomer-tier political ideologues who exist for the sole purpose of owning the libs. But I'll always have a soft place in my heart for someone who shits on journo hacks.

Watch ResetEra go Pikachu-surprised when these new rules are applied to their "EAT THE RICH!!!" political violence Antifa-ish videos. They think restricting speech only applies to people they don't like, meanwhile Google and all of major social media is under scrutiny for antitrust and political bias. The worse it gets the more likely they are to become regulated as a common-carriers (best outcome).

I'd like YouTube to have a minimalist set of rules that are enforced equally and fairly. These rules should roughly be "you can't post things that are illegal in the US". I do not want them going out of their way to demonetize people based on subjective opinions often provided by biased and corrupt groups that are attempting to create an industry around providing censorship services. If and when these sites are regulated as common-carriers, they will have a legally obligated standard, which is a good thing.

Why are LGBT creators being demonetized? Because SJW journos created a big stink about how advertisers were supporting <BAD THING>. So Google in response took a more aggressive stance, and provided more options to advertisers to discriminate against which videos they're applied to. As if these advertisers are paying for endorsements, and not just have their stupid fucking video play.

Google doesn't care about your tiny YouTube channel. They'd rather ban you delete all your videos than even risk giving fodder to some journo hack at VICE a reason to write yet another article advocating for deplatforming. SJWs are literally their own worst enemy.

What in the world does this have to do with my post, which is about monetization?  In response to your comments about monetization.

How does distinguished mentally-challenged fellowBanBot propose YouTube make money in his free speech utopia when advertisers decline to be associated with the site at all after all his buddies start posting calls for jewish genocide videos en masse?

Well, I guess they'll still get money from the Colloidal Silver folks

How does limiting your advertising help your monetization? It doesn't. This is about suppressing speech in direct competition with their advertising. Google is so utterly dominant in advertising, they set the rules, not the advertising clients. Good luck with your boomer ass marketing department. I bet most of the advertisers who "made a fuss" did it because of their own internal corporate politics de-emphasizing traditional advertising jobs since it's effectively being outsourced to Google. Simply do not give the clients the option to pick, they are advertising on your website, not the individual videos, and most viewers (plebs) recognize this.

This is a combination of corporate wokeness and actual governments outside of the US seeking to control speech, particularly inside the EU. Monetization itself is a red-herring discussion.

But I guess you'd rather have LGBT videos get demonetized en-mass because of advertisers being given the choice to discriminate. Just like how Facebook does racial discrimination in their ads.

Maybe it's just not true.

Laws protect web site owners from being charged for content users provide.

As the owner of 8chan conveniently states every time he is interviewed on the matter.

In those same interviews he claims to not do any policing of content, leaving it up to the users who create the boards.
You're describing the fundamental nature of the Internet itself.

But they do police it. You can't host CP, you're just not criminally liable because someone uploaded CP. Most establishment social media sites use DBs of hashed CP to try to preemptively moderate these posts, but most do not have access to these DBs. Additionally these DBs are expanding beyond CP and now include every random thing the EU declares objectionable. The large sites do not conform to US laws, they conform the the most restrictive countries they operate in, this itself is a problem.

I don't have much more to say about it. This is all extremely obvious if you have a few brain cells to rub together. If any of this was true, people would have at least been arrested (if not convicted).

Not moderating is not the same as knowingly hosting illegal content. You claim that they didn't respond to abuse complaints (which they are legally obligated to do), this is simply criminal. It's clearly not true. Only sites in the EU have a strict timing obligation, not the US. Your statement is a total contradiction of itself, and you're conflating content moderation with legal obligations. Use your critical thinking skills.
