Who the fuck wants to play as a Nazi?
Remember that time a ton of gamers were disappointed that Battlefront 2 wasn't about how great the space nazis are?

Crossing Eden decides to compare liking the Empire in star wars to supporting Nazis
Right?
The Nazis never blew up a planet.
Alderaan never forget.
Most people can tell the difference between a game and real life...
NO !

Pop culture has been inundated with portrayals of German soldiers on the Western front from 1945 on, up to tragic or sympathetic ones and having German protagonists (Iron Cross or the Eagle has Landed, to cite two), on a scale much larger than videogames (there's not a ton of games who have or need even such a perfunctory level of character writing). Now it probably fed from and to the popular myth of apolitical Wermacht / evil Nazis* but despite all that "normalization" (to use the fashionable term) going on for half a century, the Western audiences didn't suddenly consider the Nazis good guys. Just like those poor, mindless sheepish plebs didn't think Stalags were all fun and games because they watched Hogan's Heroes.
ERA's frothing in the mouth won't get any better because as WWII slides more and more in being old rather than recent history, the vague commitment to some historical fidelity will become more and more tenuous.
It's present day neo-Nazis/Fascists PR we need to be vigilant about, not relatively benign** depictions of a long extinct specific incarnation of a regime (and associated imagery) IMHO.
* Kelly's Heroes is the only one I can think of where the German character (that we don't know much about but is "sympathetic", at least within the cynical framework of the story) is a SS. The film also has the deadpan and dark humor to have a mini swatiska flag being waved in the final Allied parade, proportional to his share in the story.

** Excluding whitewashing of Old Nazis by New Nazis, obviously.
