I seriously doubt that. I don’t think he cares about not getting the scoop, but more than a GG related person was the one warning everybody.

There's debate that the list was still accessible through cache and that the ESA didn't scrub it properly.

Kotaku's story said they just took down the link, but the actual info was still up and accessible if you knew the URL. This is ESA's mistake.

Because of the increased number of data breaches recently, reporting on hacked data "is something that journalists need to get to grips with sooner rather than later," Paul Bradshaw, course leader of MA Online Journalism at Birmingham City University, told Motherboard in a phone call.

When handling potentially stolen information, journalists need to confirm, as much as possible, the veracity of the data; understand that the source may not be impartial; and decide what aspects and parts of the data to publish or report on. This sounds a lot like dealing with whistleblowers, Bradshaw pointed out.

"The kind of ethical issues that journalists have to deal with in terms of whistleblowing and leaks generally are a pretty strong precedent for this," he said.

Quote
A 2015 piece in Jezebel took information buried in hacked emails from Sony, and laid out Amy Pascal's Amazon shopping list, which included some rather embarrassing personal items. Pascal is a public figure, which opens her life up to more scrutiny than some random person, but in this case, nothing significant has been uncovered, and instead, confidential data has been used to simply mock.

Quote
"When data has been hacked, it's been stolen, and it might well be confidential in its nature," Caroline Kean, a media litigator with London firm Wiggin, told Motherboard in a phone call. "So the journalist then has to decide is it right, is it in the public interest, is it appropriate, for me to break that confidence and publish something?"

When journalists handle something they know to have been obtained in a breach of confidence, the duty to keep that information confidential runs through to them. In general, journalists are protected from reporting on illegal acts, including a hacked data dump, as long as the journalist was not involved in the illegal act itself. But a secondary question remains: What is in the public interest?

Quote
So perhaps, more fundamentally, reporting on hacked data really is nothing new, as the key questions circulating around publication are still the same as with any story. Is this information in the public interest? What sort of details need to be published, and which others should be kept private?
https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qkjkg3/journalists-should-not-be-afraid-of-using-hacked-data
As Vice points out, Gawker/Jezebel reported on the Sony hacks which included personal information. Jason Schreier is mad because now he's directly affected by it.

FYI I can no longer comment on the data breach because I just received some INSIDE INFORMATION from someone directly involved.  I’m only mentioning this because I’m sure that my generally scintillating insight and commentary will be conspicuous in their absence.

Anything interesting?

Not so much, unless you’re like me and you’re a nosy gossip kind of person.

I like this tweet a lot because she's a "professional writer" that can't form a coherent sentence in the span of 280 characters. I too, never make a policy to tweet while emotional; it just comes naturally to me I guess.

Her other tweets are pretty  :huh at a glance as well.

How do we regulate the web while we're at it? Just likes guns, some liberties need to be rethought when used maliciously at this rate. Yes, one kills the other doesn't but it's still very dangerous in actually weaponizing and radicalizing individuals.

Maybe I'm off base? I feel like if we put ourselves in a "but freedom of speech, our liberties, only bad guys do bad things", we're in the same boat as gun nuts. Or again, am I in the wrong because one is physical, the other not?

This is not meant to be "bububut what about cars?" This is me genuinely worried about raising two boys in this day and age with their access to the web (or lack of and the affects it may have on them socially and education-wise going forward).

After another mass shooting, (the fact I can't remember which mass shooting it was is fucked up), Jake Tapper and CNN had a roundup panel discussing how exactly could the government monitor potential extremist discussion and serious planning for the next mass shooting. I shit you not, one of the security experts (former government official, either CIA or NSA, or one of those intelligence systems) claim that they were trading information using the PS4 message system. This is how dumb they expect people to act. The PS4 system is one of the worst systems I have ever use to send a message.

[IGN] Mixer, Ninja's New Streaming Platform, Criticized for Seemingly Strict Clothing Guidelines

At the risk of sounding puritanical...

Naaaah.

Quote
No surprise that there are some females complaining when a proportion of them show a massive amount of cleavage to draw in viewers. At least with Mixer and family streams you'll know that younger girls can watch the more intelligent women stream instead of the 'instagram' type. Same goes for the small groin males who stream shirtless with all their tattoos on display.

Quote
How is this any different than any other place of employment having a dress code?

Is it really "employment" though ?

Quote
Im all for freedom of expression but there should be a line between camgirls and serious gamers.

Serious. Gamers.
Cool comics too !

Quote
There are other mediums if showing your body off is your goal. That applies to both guys and gals.

Why not both ?

Quote
Quote
I don't see the issue. I'm sure kids television have similar guidelines.
There is no issue, the world's gone mad.

In all seriousness, I guess I can see where Mixer is coming from and they have different rules depending on which age rating the stream is classified in. The rules are pretty severe though.
