I would argue all the people coming into a topic complaining about drinking in the shower being socially unhealthy just to be like "gonna go shower drink, thanks!" is trolling. You see it all the time on the gaming side where someone is posting about how some asshole youtuber is awful or some shit and people come into be like "big fan, thanks!"

Krejlooc won’t stand for you assholes trolling him. :punch

When men are offended by those jokes because they don't want to see their own complicity in patriarchy. When they refuse to see how the system of patriarchy has betrayed, harmed, and fractured men as a social class so deeply.

Being on the couch indicates some sort of entertainment activity is being done. Couches themselves are built for socializing, as opposed to, say, a love seat or a solitary chair. Seeing as beer is being called "fun" in this topic repeatedly, it seems pretty obvious why drinking on a couch is ok -- you're doing a "fun" activity in a spot meant for fun and socializing.

Showers aren't meant for fun, they're not meant for relaxation, they're not meant to socialize. Showers have a pretty utilitarian function: they are meant to clean you. If you derive fun from it, ok. If you think being cleaned feels relaxing, ok. But even in dishwalla's gotcha example, he didn't go into the shower for fun, he went in to clean off "after working in the sun."

Normalizing the drinking of alcohol in moments not appropriate for alcohol -- a substance many say is used for socialization and fun -- encourages abuse.

Let's ask this: what's the difference between drinking alone in your kitchen in the dark at 5 am on a wednesday before work, and drinking on the couch?

Maybe not for you :girlaff

FACT CHECK:

gotta love when people say things like "step back" or "get a grip" hours after someone posted, like that's not at all antagonistic. Take your own advice.
Quote from: Krejlooc
You're the one being aggressive here, hours after I had "stepped back." Your post brought me back here. Here, I'll make it so you 'step back' for you.

And people who drink beer in the shower and especially brag about it online are a problem. imagine coming into a topic explicitly about the dangers of normalizing and encouraging bad behavior to be like "well people on reddit told me it's common, this one dude told me to try it and I tried it and it's totally normal you should try it!" and then being surprised when the OP reacts negatively to it.

Every single page, people have mentioned reddit in relation to the sudden popularity of drinking beer in the shower. As though people don't guerrilla market on reddit or some shit.

The line of discussion isn't about drinking beer in the shower turning you into an alcoholic, despite how many (incredibly disingenuous) posters want to twist it into that. It's about how normalizing dangerous drinking habits contributes to the rise of societal alcoholism, as in a systemic response.

I'd say it's more telling about how defensive posters ITT got about someone calling out a rightfully dangerous normalization because it hits close to home, but not a damn person has said anything (serious) about dipping chocolate cookies into frosting or chugging 2 liters of soda. No no, that's obviously harmful, because it's not at all (apparently) controversial to go off about the dangerous of sugar. But encouraging unhealthy drinking habits, on a substance that is known to be addictive and harmful (like, seriously, we gonna pretend alcohol addiction ISN'T incredibly common?) is a-ok because "i drank a beer once and didn't die" or some shit.
yikes, is this body shaming

If people are going into the shower to relax, then they're a problem. If a shower is relaxing to them while utilitarian, who cares, but you shouldn't go into the shower to relax. That's selfish and hurts the environment. You should go into a shower to clean yourself as necessary.

I don't care if you find doing that relaxing, since that's irrelevant to the entire reason this entire line of conversation came up: someone said it was alright to drink in the shower the same as drinking on a couch because they are both meant for relaxation. Showers are NOT meant for relaxation, they're meant for cleaning yourself, and if you're chiming in to tell me how you totally shower just for funsies, not for need, then you haven't refuted my point at all. You've just actually provided me with another reason why drinking in the shower "for fun" is awful.

Internet discourse can get really nasty and when the Alt right get involved and allowed to control the direction of the discourse like what happened with Gamergate or previously this year with Captain Marvel and Alita, dangerous.

The Joker as a character has co-opted in the past by the alt right for use in their rhetoric, being worried they'll do the same for his movie isn't petty and it's better to find ways to mitigate that ahead of time so the rhetoric isn't allowed to get as toxic and abusive that has been allowed to before, not an easy task when places like Reddit, Twitter and YouTube do near nothing to stop it.

...

Someone else brought previously how they've successfully done that with V for Vendetta or Pepe, this isn't a good thing and just "ignore it and pretend it doesn't happen" is never a good tactic, we've seen this first hand in the gaming community how that mentality allowed gaming to be infested with alt right rhetoric, hell ERA should know this better then any forum since this site was made to get away from a place that was infested with it in form of Neogaf.

The best way to combat that is to not let them, being aware of the possibility is a good start and helps make sure to move the discourse of the movie into a possitivie direction rather than a toxic one, making it way harder for the alt right to co-opt it.

Quote
yes indeed we must stop the joka movie
and also ban videogames because they cause mass shootings

oh and ban anime too since the alt right loves anime dont they?
This I'm just... Wow, no one is asking for bans and honestly, it really comes across that you're deliberately being disingenuous. Like really we're comparing people worried about the alt right, a group who have shown time after time to be dangerous... To people who blame video games for mass shootings... That is so in poor taste that I'm not even sure what to say to that... Same with the people trying to compare this to moral panics...

No wonder the alt right were able to invest gaming communities so easily with this type of mentality, like WTF.

all you anti-Disney haters BTFO even before they get to $10 billion
https://getpocket.com/explore/item/how-a-trip-to-disneyland-changed-my-trans-family-forever
Quote
That year, my dad’s 40th-birthday present was a week in Disneyland as a woman. We went as a family. She wore dresses and makeup and we called her Denise. Our present to her was that she could be herself. It seemed reasonable at the time; it seemed nice. I’m disgusted now to think that was a privilege we granted to her as a gift. “You’ve lived 40 years of lies, here’s one whole week to be yourself. Go wild.”
Quote
A few days into our trip we were eating dinner outside. My dad was explaining the logistics behind the “Fantasmic!” show we’d just watched and my mom caught me smiling.

“I think she’s forgiven you for screaming on the Rescue Rangers ride,” my mom teased her.

“It was scary!” My dad defended herself, chuckling a little.

“Only ‘cause you’re a giant wuss,” I rolled my eyes. “And that wasn’t as bad as mom saying that Goofy was flirting with me. So embarrassing!”

My mom laughed off my ribbing and lifted her camera.

“Come on, pose for me,” she cajoled.

I pulled a silly face and pretended that my souvenir Koosh ball was attacking me. My mom snapped the photo and we all laughed. It was the first time we’d all laughed together in a long time. I realized that I was breathing easy in a way I hadn’t all year. We’d been walking around Disney for days with my dad dressed as a woman and no one cared. Not only did no one care, no one noticed. We were just another family at Disneyland. No one gave us a second glance.

The last day came and we didn’t want to go back. No one wants to leave Disneyland, but more than that, we really didn’t want to go back.

Here’s the thing with this bullshit alt-right lite “you should think for yourself and not be sheeple, freethinkers!” bs.

1) it’s extremely condescending because you’re telling people they haven’t thought about what they are interpreting.

2) it’s most often used as a defense to something that is being viewed as problematic and most often attacking minorities and oppressed groups.

Maybe, jussssssst maybe if you truly wanted to be an ally to said oppressed minority group you might try being more empathetic and oh I don’t know, listening to their concerns about stuff they experience every day. You know, instead of defending your position of privilege with a dissertation on why they shouldn’t be offended by something clearly transphobic. Learning and thinking is a two way street.

I've recently booked a holiday to Tokyo next year and i'm in two minds about what to eat. I've been vegan over a year now and don't think twice about it but after doing some research it looks like i'll be missing out on a whole lot if i didn't try the street food and the ramen etc. Of course there's vegan options and places to eat but the food looks so damn good. I'm worried about if i'll be able to go back 100% plant based when i'm home.

I originally went vegan for health and energy benefits plus getting a dog changed my mind on the impact of animal agriculture.

'I want the thing to be bigoted so that I can rally against it' should be Era's new slogan.
Honestly in the wake of a lot of legit transphobic bullshit, that's a really shitty thing to say. I agree that this ain't it but people are quick to jump in because we have sincerely transphobic shit flung at us every day of our lives.

maybe they should stick to marvel movies. resetti isn't good at the whole "thinking" thing

I like when they get satire explained and make the "No, obviously I understood it, but I'm worried about others missing the point and being recruited into the alt-right" pivot.

Given that Resetera are clearly guilty of the erasure of non-binary cis identities, they need to apologise. Then be cancelled anyway.

Is there a sassy gif that says “not everything is about you”?

If people are going into the shower to relax, then they're a problem. If a shower is relaxing to them while utilitarian, who cares, but you shouldn't go into the shower to relax.

Imagine writing this and not thinking you are insane.
