cntrl+f "red"

Quote from: redmercury
This was actually hilarious, at the same time though I don't know if playing into the whole idea of being "woke" is playing to the right as that's a common refrain from them, like it's kind of adopting their criticism and using it against our side, but at the same time there are people who are all talk and no walk and they should be set right. I think the people most would think of as "woke" do have their hearts in somewhat the right place, and they actually have a chance of getting there, versus a lot of people who have no chance at all. I'm white so for me I have the prililege where I would take them over a worse person, but for minorities I can see how they wouldn't have time for their bullshit if they aren't really helping.

Overly performative white liberals are obnoxious but uh, they're still better than fascists, so... that's something?

People who can admit their privilege grants them blind spots (myself included) have my respect, at least.

So brave.  They can admit they have respect for themselves.  Same person saying "they want to literally kill me," in the can you be friends with people thread.

Dune's going to be the same guy that did the Blade runner sequel right? There's no way that isn't going to be one of the best movies of this century.
The real worry is that it's supposed to be a trilogy (or a duology?) and if the first one flops like BR2049 did, we'll just end up with an unfinished story.

2049 was so much better than people gave it credit for.
It was critically very well received i thought.
For some reason the BR movies are just not that good at the box office (though internationally it should've done good enough to recoup costs, at least).

I liked it more than the original, so there's that.

It's simple.  When I abolish democracy, I'm going to replace it with the first non-fascist alternative:  A nation-state community of self-segregated racial enclaves at the Disneyland Resort and Spa.  Oi, bruv, do you have your WakandaLand pass?   gets out assorted kinds of paper bags  Okay, you're good.  You have citizenship. You can build a family here.   Oh, you want to go ride Space Mountain?  Listen, that's in the Magic Kingdom...*looks around to see if anyone is watching/whispers in your ear* Where all the South Koreans live.  If you really want to leave, we can petition a Russo or a Feige for diplomatic passthrough, but Epcot Center is going to fucking kill you for disrupting alliances here.  "Go Ahead" from Avengers Endgame OST starts playing ominously in the background.

Oh my god, we need this as an emote.

2049 was so much better than people gave it credit for.

There's certain things about it that could've been cut and the movie would've been better off for it. But it's not bad. Just, it's kinda jarring to see the "future" and then Blade Runner's set design side-by-side with little/no regard for trying to make it less jarring.

Oh dear. 6 to 7 degrees when we're desperate to limit it to 1.5. Hahaha, ahh you gotta laugh. What a failure. I don't say this lightly, things are that serious, but we need some kind of cult of fact to take over. Forget all religion, forget everything, let's operate a society based on scientific fact and let that lead all policy going forward. People's and politicians are such short sighted greedy fuckers nothing will ever change for the good until we adopt this mentality. Fuck religion, fuck the wealthy steering everything in favour of them making more money. If there's not a scientific fact backing up why a policy is in place, and ALL policy should be about making the average citizens life better over the course of generations.. then it shouldn't be done.

i like that the OP keeps insisting FF7R is ambitious cause they are splitting it into three+ parts to sell more shit :lol

Quote
I mean they’re splitting one game into three or more full sized parts and expanding it drastically
Quote
Remaking FF7 alone isn’t risky guys. How they are doing it is. It’s taking a ton of development resources for a single remake
Quote
Aiming to successfully retell the story of a classic game in multiple parts that massively expand the scope of the game over the next 7 or so years and please the fans at the same time isn’t a lofty goal?
Quote
I mean, kind of what I’m saying is that they COULD have done it one package.

Wouldn’t you say it’s way more ambitious to go for what they’re going for now?

I could easily see FF7 part 2 selling poorly because a chunk of people who played the first don't bother to return and those who didn't play the first are especially not into the second part of a story they don't care about, and/or waiting to get the complete package at once

and then 3 just gets delayed and delayed and before you know it it's 2050 and half the world's population is dead so it's not really worth finishing it up with that kind of reduced sales potential

The best thing about Mad Max’s legacy is influencing Gau in FFVI and the post apoc hockey pads desert look that you’d see in shit like Fist of the North Star more than the movies themselves.

I seriously don’t get the Mad Max hype. They’re okay movies but why are they so loved? Not any better than a western. You’re telling me a kid that can’t talk and only talks in grunts becomes the leader of an group in the future? Okay.

Fury Road is easily the best one.

Spaghetti western with cars instead of horses, fuel and water instead of gold. Plus it's a post-apocalyptic that isn't depressing af, which is rare.

Fury Road is easily the best one.

On that we can agree. But you have to admit Mad Max was good for four decades ago.

I hear those delivery services are rife with people who eat your food.  Like, if you buy fries it's pretty much a guarantee that they'll take some.

i only get food delivery a 1-2x a month when super stoned but most places i've ordered from close the food bag with staples/stickers to "prove" that it hasn't been tampered with.

There's probably a r/shoplifting-esque subreddit solely focused on the best re-stapling techniques for food delivery drivers

also if you order fries from a delivery service you are stupid and deserve to have them stolen. those things are barely fresh when you get them, they aren't lasting a drive

Okay.

Spaghetti western with cars instead of horses, fuel and water instead of gold. Plus it's a post-apocalyptic that isn't depressing af, which is rare.

Fury Road is easily the best one.

On that we can agree. But you have to admit Mad Max was good for four decades ago.

Mad Max 1 is depressing af dude. What are you on? Guy runs over his fucking family.

Speaking of which, I hate fucking movies with forced situations.

Like Max knows his wife is riled up about the gang. They have no idea where their son is. Mom goes to the beach all by herself like a dumb ass in a post apocalyptic setting. Leaves her kid at home. Max is constantly leaving his wife by herself and is shocked chica gets whacked. It makes you want to scream at them because they’re so dumb.

I mean 2 onwards is funny.

MM1 was like his sad Batman origin story

Okay yeah. 2 onwards is definitely more positive than the rest of the genre.

Watch A Boy and His Dog instead for a positive spin on the post-apocalypse.
