Fo sho. Ellie in Winter was my favorite bit of the game.

Last I'll say about TLOU since this is wildly off topic but you're right, the best bits were the Winter bits up until Ellie suddenly becomes helpless in need of a savior in the form of Joel's fever ridden self to somehow save her. Joel should have died in that shack.

He doesn't quite need to save her though. She butchers David all on her own.

I thought he was dead after how that college town part concluded. Him falling down on some spike or whatever it was (or was there some small bit after where we still see him with Ellie as winter starts? It's a bit hazy now). I thought it was really a cruel moment of "damn, this kid is gonna have to power on through after all of that. No more security from wannabe step daddy?  :o
But nope he was still alive and I admit that made me happy.

Yeah I see this isn't the proper thread for TLoU discussion so I will stop now too. Just gonna say that I was a big fan and I am looking forward to Part 2 quite a bit.

The "far left" as perceived by people who would actually blame the far left, doesn't even exist and is an invention of the alt right, after they rebranded themselves as alt right.

Nobody is upset by this movie!  I'm not Upset!  NO ONE HERE IS FREAKING OUT!!!!!! - Enzom in spirit.

I agree with that essence of that truncated quote, but not in the way he means.

The discussion around this film has collapsed into a defensive echo chamber. You cannot discuss the themes of the film and their relation to current society without eager fans claiming you are either inciting moral panic, trying to get the film banned, or ironically trying to will into existence mass shoootings- the latter claim completely contradicting this sudden idea that "media has no effect on people."

Furthermore this belief doesn't make sense in a community that often goes out of its way to champion minority inclusion, citing- well- the social benefits of seeing minorities in non-stereotypical roles in notable productions. I guess media only matters when it's convenient or you get a SpiderVerse out of the deal?

The language has been striking too- claims of an "agenda," "censorship," and "free speech" have fun afoot, and along with the general hostility to people's opposing thoughts and concerns this is not all that dissimilar to the Ghostbusters row and typical trashy apolitical gamer/Gamergate rhetoric. It's become extremely alarming how quickly the veneer of progressivism flew out the window over this one film.

And it's also confusing. Remember that ridiculous satirical film where Trump supporters were victims of a hunt got canned due to backlash and absolutely no one gave a fuck? I do.

So yeah, if nothing else, the left and the right have become a little blurred in this scenario. But it's largely not coming from the people criticizing the film.

There are plenty of people discussing the themes of the film and their relation to current society. The problem is those discussions aren't happening on ERA. It's just people saying the film is bad because a white man kills a black lady or literally saying the film will incite moral panic.

This sentence doesn't even make sense following the first because these two critiques are unrelated. You can champion minority inclusion while still thinking that Joker will be a good film.

I’ve never played TLOU past the first hour because the first hour is so boring.

I played to the first forced stealth section, stealth killed one clicker by using Game Skill™ to get behind it without being seen as is the intention of stealth games, and was then insta killed via cutscene on the second clicker because the kill things using stealth mechanic is a limited resource you are supposed to craft.

That fact that it might not glorify violence doesn't matter because the trailer already made it look like it might.

I think it was Pauline Kael who notably gave her thoughts on the theory of film criticism so succinctly in the epithet "Trailer looks shit tho"

What we published was upsetting to many readers and to me. It was also an uncharacteristically bad call by the people involved, who have expressed to me their regret over the story and the pain it’s caused readers. Once I saw the article—after it was live, unfortunately—we began removing images from the post and preparing a statement that was ultimately put atop the article. It reads

So who approved it? Why removing images takes so long?

Quote
For this story, I wish we’d taken that more rigorous approach. From the comments under the article, it’s clear that’s what many of you said you expected. For example, what does it mean that these parody videos about these particular franchises, many of which feature teenage characters and whose source material is geared towards young audiences, are so popular on websites like PornHub, some with more than 700,000 views? How do the creators and industry around them operate? Is there a moral debate around them, as there often is in fanfiction and fanart communities for any franchise that features younger characters? And so on.

It seems that you guys don’t particularly care because you don’t even entertain the notion of being CP or not. Way more concerning should be the fact that the Harry Potter scenes use Emma Watson likeness, being honest.

Quote
I apologize to all of you. We badly failed to meet our own standards. For all of this, I’m sorry.

What standards?

Yup, pretty much this. It is so obvious to me that most of you getting up in arms about this article don't actually care about this issue. If you did, you would be angry at Pornhub for hosting this content. You would be angry at Reddit for hosting this content. You would be angry at Google for listing tons of this content in its image searches. You would be angry about Twitter hosting this content. Instead, you are angry that Kotaku brought it to your attention that this content exists all over the mainstream internet and didn't condemn it hard enough...as opposed to the actual sources pushing this content and profiting off of it.

As someone who was victimized using content like this as a minor, the reactions in the last thread and this one are extremely frustrating.

For someone being so victimized (?) by animated porn you seem pretty willing to talk about it in a very contradictory way.

Obviously Kotaku screwed up with the way they handled this article. I know that better than most here because the images in the article were extremely triggering for my own sexual abuse trauma. Kotaku poorly handling this article does not justify the people in this thread calling the writer a sicko, or the people in the last thread suggesting Kotaku should be banned from the forum because they brought up the fact this content exists, meanwhile no one is having a discussion about banning discussion about Pornhub (literally the site she got these screenshots from) on the forum. You don't see the hypocrisy there?

Also I firmly disagree with you that journalistic outlets shouldn't be covering this issue. Should they include fucking screengrabs of triggering content? No. Should they talk about the fact that this content is ubiquitous and that millions of teenagers have this kind of content as their first exposure to pornography, or the fact that nearly every mainstream content platform that allows porn has content like this on it? Absolutely. But the reactions in the last thread and this one don't actually encourage this discussion. They shut it down. I desperately want to have this conversation because this subject is a source of immense pain, trauma, guilt, and shame for me and other people who have gone through what I have.

No offense man, in the case you are not pulling a Miss Galaxy, but getting triggered by simulated porn is not enough to get platform holders wasting more resources in censoring this kind of porn, something they already kind of do heavily to an extent.

Pornhub is not banned here. There are threads made here about Pornhub all the fucking time. Use the search function and look for threads with "Pornhub" in the title, you will find a bunch of them. Where did I say you can't be upset about this subject? You can be upset, there is plenty of reason to be. I was upset with the way this was handled as well. What's more upsetting to me than Kotaku publishing this bad article is the lack of care most people have about this issue until it gives them justification to grind their axes against a site they already don't like, using trauma like mine as a justification.

I feel that, giving him the benefit of the doubt, that when he was  abused the pedo tried to grooming him by showing him animated “CP”. Is not exactly a uncommon tactic from pedophiles to do that, but is not exactly limited to fictional porn.

Not really. I don’t really like TLOU. I think it’s a solid game that has been overrated and turned into some sort of god by people who equate good writing with being super serious.

But people who attack it always seem to have some anti Sony bent. As seen on this very page.

You are weirdly sensitive about people having differing opinions on video games.
Not really. I don’t really like TLOU. I think it’s a solid game that has been overrated and turned into some sort of god by people who equate good writing with being super serious.

But people who attack it always seem to have some anti Sony bent. As seen on this very page.

I have a "stop fucking up muh vidya gameplay with your nowhere-near-as-good-as-you-obviously-fucking-think-it-is-unskippable-cutscenes" bent.

Not my fault Sony invest all their moneys in those types of games because they help sell TVs :idont

Oh, so you are a Sony fanboy.

Still weirdly sensitive, just for a different reason.

Believe what you want. I don’t care or have time to correct you.

I'm honestly feeling like the Joker "backlash" is a Disney psyop that reee naturally jumped on board with
Mickey Mouse walking towards $10 billion movie revenue.bmp  :hyper :drool :drool :drool :drool

the road to 10 billion needs someone to do some dirty work

Obviously the BBC comments are rife with right wing assholes but I reckon half of them surely can't genuinely be real people and have to be bots or people paid to say that shit?

Has anyone else noticed a sudden influx of absolute shit heads on social media recently like almost 2016-2017 levels? Is this because of climate change talks Brexit and Trump all happening simultaneously? Are these people real? Or is it that half are fake and trying to make the minority look like the majority?

Quote from: Pomerlaw

Most of these shitheads have no life so they have plenty of time to post shit on social media.

It’s not you. I literally noticed it today. The Joker/Todd Phillips thread was miraculously full of drive-by shit posts right out the gate.

Yeah and I’d do it again.

But I don’t care about this, I already know how the bore operates.

It’s a Sony game that is very story heavy and people on Ree over praise it. So it must be bad and if you like it you must also be a sony special fellow.

The bore is pretty bad at talking about anything beyond making fun of ree.
