I didn’t know there was a thread for this, either. Considering how frequently epic gives away free stuff, we should update it more frequently. LOL

Half the free games I have from EGS, after downloading and installing, I then have to download and install a separate client from the publisher, and then download and install the game again from that client.

:beli
So far the only 2 that I’ve got which do that are GTA5 and Watchdogs.

I've still been grabbing most of them.

Don't think I've played a single one  :doge

Only game I've ever played on EGS was Control. And of course in the sales they won't put the season pass on sale even though they do on PS4.

I think I've only played the games I actually paid money for, but I wouldn't have purchased those if Epic hadn't lured me to the store with free offers. I joined for FTL, but haven't even fired that up yet.

…oh, looks like I played Innerspace for an hour. That was OK. Keep meaning to revisit it.

Good timing bump. They just announced Remnant From the Ashes is free next week on the 13th along with Total War: Troy for just that one day.

Biggest gets they've had in a while.

Can't you just add the Epic Games Launcher as a non-steam game and do it like that?

It’s on sale till the third. Picked it up for $5 since I had a leftover coupon.  :win

I really, really liked Where the Water Tastes like Wine. It was a huge flop and actually had a moderate budget for an indie project (they got Sting to voice hours and hours of dialogue + 16 writers and various artists).

It's a total mess of a "game", it's slow and if you try to "beat" you'll spend over 30+ hours. Better to just play what you feel like until you are good.

But as an otherworldy journey through the soul of past-time America it's probably the best game I've ever played to give that feel. Also the soundtrack is amazing. It's one of those games that I'm so glad exists even if it's not really a good game.

Very good read on it:
https://medium.com/@johnnemann/where-the-water-tastes-like-wine-postmortem-211a1f9d791a

Quote
Commercially, it’s a disaster. I can’t discuss exact numbers, but in the first few weeks fewer people bought the game than I have Twitter followers, and I don’t have a lot of Twitter followers (and this tells you a lot about how effective marketing via Twitter is).

So far, I have made $0 from the game. That may look like a high number, but consider that it took four years to make — that works out to approximately $0/year. Compared to the $120,000+/year salary of a 15-year veteran in a AAA studio, it begins to look a lot smaller! And then if I go into the hourly breakdown… I don’t have an actual count of hours spent making the game, but there was a lot of crunch that went into it, so I am guesstimating I made about $0/hour. That’s not a lot! And then once you factor in the ~$140,000 I spent paying my contractors and collaborators for the game, you begin to see that maybe it wasn’t, financially speaking, worth it. I guess I will have to wait a bit longer to buy that Juicero.

Joking aside — that’s dismal. And terrifying. At the end of the day it’s astounding that a game that got this much attention from the press, that won awards, that had an all-star cast of writers and performers, that had a bizarre celebrity guest appearance(!) failed this hard. It scares me.

I am going to be OK, at least for the moment. I don’t own a house, so I didn’t mortgage it to ship this game (being a millennial pays off!). I’m only responsible for myself, and I didn’t spend the last of my savings, plus I have marketable skills that I can hopefully use to keep myself fed in the future. I’m glad that I got to pay so many talented people for their skills, and that there were only a few folks getting paid through revenue share (there were a few, and I feel terrible about that). I am also very glad that many of the people who worked on this game are already using that fact and their experience to find other work with teams — if everyone else who worked on this ended up better for doing so, that’s a great reason to have made it.

i played a bit of it before it left gamepass and it was kind of interesting, but nothing I would really want to pay for. the walking speed seemed annoying.

I had read that postmortem before, glad maybe he is getting a little money for it finally.

I don't know about great as I think as the game went on it clearly did'nt know what to do with combat. It did'nt really want to be a shooter, but the stealth is also pretty meh. So I ended up having to just kind of brute force my way through. That said the game does still have a really nice vibe and San Fran is such a well realized place and great to be in. The characters are surprisingly pretty fun. There's not a lot of GTA 3 Urban city open world games now so WD2 is a good game to scratch that itch. It also does not feel like Ubisoft open world tedium. So I liked it.

I got in on Alien Isolation at the big giveaway, but failed to hit the final button on Metro 2033 Redux. I own Metro on 360 though, so I'm not really out. Just felt dumb.

Defense Grid is one of the best tower defense games ever.

Verdun actually has a mode where you sit in a frontline trench and fire at waves of bots coming across No Man's Land for high scores with random artillery strikes and chemical attacks (you need to put on your gas mask for these) everywhere, so very accurate to World War I gameplay. :lol It was the only mode with any players when I played it a few years back.

"Epic Games Store is unprofitable and not comparable to the App Store" the lawyers began, rather bluntly, "and will not be profitable for at least multiple years, if ever." Ouch!

But what's interesting is that Apple's legal eagles go on to break down just how unprofitable the Epic Games Store is. "Epic lost around $181 million on EGS in 2019. Epic projected to lose around $273 million on EGS in 2020. Indeed, Epic committed $444 million in minimum guarantees for 2020 alone, while projecting, even with 'significant' growth, only $401 million in revenue for that year. Epic acknowledges that trend will continue in the immediate future: Epic projects to lose around $139 million in 2021."

Frank coming in is the Fortnite money. :success

Yokus Island Express is free now, and is a really fucking good (and hugely under rated) game.

Its kind of like a mix of a metroidvania and pinball, but plays a lot better than that sounds, and is at a pricepoint you can't quibble about.

The highest praise I can give it is that it plays like a Nintendo experimental 2D platformer that goes on to become a cult classic.
