on the press release it says it's the original English and Japanese translations

Enhanced details to UI, sprites, and texture art
Original cinematic videos receiving visual enhancements

GungHo has sent the following statement regarding the PlayStation/Saturn base.

"We want to be clear, the GRANDIA HD Collection are not ports of the original PlayStation games, they are remasters. We are using the original PlayStation code of GRANDIA, but working with the Sega Saturn version to craft the definitive version of this beloved RPG."

After we asked if GungHo could offer more clarification, GungHo replied:

The team is primarily using the Saturn version as a reference point, working to match details and effects from that version of the game.

Mr. Minagawa explained that as many art assets as possible were touched up for this release. Character sprites & portraits, enemy sprites, environment model art,  and UI elements like icons & text. A few menu digits could not be replaced, but most of the UI has clearly received touch-ups. This did give the character sprites, to my eye in my time with the game, a slightly smeared look. There will not be options to choose original sprites.

Not everything will be enhanced, however, as audio quality will be the same as the PSX version. Also, while Grandia II got a new Hard Mode in its re-release in 2015, no such new additions will be made to the original Grandia.

One of the new additions to this re-release, besides dual-audio support, is that of French and German subtitle tracks.

the original Grandia had an AWFUL translation though. Why don't companies retranslate anymore?
at least there's jp audio instead of the home brew VA. although im so nostalgic maybe i wanna hear deadpan mullen.

To be honest I find devolver annoying as shit in their hipster edginess and some of the games they publish are just trash (but they have some great ones for sure),

But that is great.

I had no idea that a Grandia Collection was coming to the Switch. This really might end up being my favorite console. :-[

I wish 3 was included too, but oh well.

This might be the most interesting tidbit so far from the Giantbomb interview with Phil Spencer. He talks about the Xbox team's long-term idea of potentially allowing a way for Xbox users to get paid for their CPU/connection utilization for other gamers in the vicinity playing via Xbox's cloud gaming tech.

It's kinda weird. Most of these companies roll out CG trailers and then have very little on the show floor of their newest attractions.

Nintendo spends days streaming everything with Treehouse giving an in depth look into every game.
E3 is basically just the Nintendo Treehouse stream now. I'm not seeing any other 'showfloor' impressions and whatnot like in the old days.

Seriously, WTF are the "journalists" doing?

They use to sprint to get in line to get 6 minutes with a Nintendo game so they could write a 2,000 word preview.

Now they sort of sit on a couch and gossip?

The sheer density of the world, sprawling in scope, is almost shocking. Cyberpunk 2077 feels large but is also precisely designed, steeped in considered lore. Almost as if the stories being told were seamlessly tied to the game world, like they should be.

Here’s the thing Nintex.

No one cares what game journos think anymore. Game journos these days get the footage and we make our decision based on that footage of the game. Rather than give us some crappy pr, we watch 20-30 minutes of the game and decide for ourselves. Much better imo.

Basically the industry has gone full Giant Bomb.

In ways Cyberpunk is less demanding than Witcher 3. For example, Witcher 3 has a large open world with quite a draw distance. Cyberpunk 2077 seems to focus more on condensed spaces.
I don't think the Switch can run it but it could actually run better than Witcher 3 did on PS4/Xbox One as it should be easier to optimize. Cyberpunk being a 1st person game helps as well.
No need to render the player character.

A good reason to stay off them during E3 and a reason to hope Sony is at E3 next year.

What do you have against Nintendo, Rah? They make good shit. Is your bias towards Sony that strong? I’m a Sony diehard (have almost 150 ps2 games and nearly 70 ps1) and even I love them. Is it age? Is it because you’re younger and ps1 was your first system? Makes sense, NES was the first console I played on and while I had a genesis I still grew up surrounded by Nintendo. Oh well, weird. More for us.

Being a stan for a specific console/publisher/developer is dumb AF. Play games. Each console has good games. (This is a true statement mostly because the xbone has some good 3rd party games on it)

Nofriendo stans that don't play games like Horizon ZD, Bloodborne, etc are equally as insane as Sony stans that don't play Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, and [insert indie jank on the Switch that you could have played 2-3 years ago on PC but people act like it's revolutionary now cause the switch is a handheld or something]

No. N64 was my first console.

And I don't think I have that much of a bias towards Sony. I've had every Xbox for instance. I do prefer the Playstation I guess, but also the kind of games under the Xbox and Playstation attract.

I just don't like Nintendo. I don't like Nintendo games. I dislike Zelda, Mario, and so on. I find Nintendo games to be cheap and having low production values compared to the rest of the industry. No reason Pokemon games should look the way they do and have things like no voice acting compared to what they sell. Even Fire Emblem looks like trash. There's no reason Nintendo games should lack things like 5.1 sound and in general technical aspects that pretty much every other developer has. Their online is a joke. I don't care for platformers. They don't make games with the stories, worlds, aesthetics, or subject matter that interests me.  And they usually feel pretty low budget.

Only reason I own a Wii, a Wii U, and a Switch is because of Platnium, Monolith, and the occasional third party Japanese game like No More Heroes. The only "Nintendo" games I have are Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros Wii U, and Fire Emblem Warriors. Kart because it came with the Wii U, Smash Bros because people like playing it when they are over. I've never played it on my own, don't like Smash. Fire Emblem honestly because of the character designs and ok muso gameplay.

I'm happy they are funding Monolith and Platinum, but I'd probably enjoy those games more if they were on pretty much any other platform. They'd look and run better. XBX on PC would be amazing. The Last Story not running like shit would be great. Astral Chain in a higher resolution would probably take the anime look even further. Fatal Frame in surround sound would be amazing.

Mario and Zelda have some of the highest production values. The animation in 3d Mario games alone is insane. Nintendo pioneered revolutionary water and reflection tech in Mario sunshine that looks good to this day. Wind Waker pioneered cel shading and literally looks like a cartoon. Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door looks amazing. Their Yoshi games look like actual yarn.

Fire Emblem is a strategy rpg. It has an appropriate budget. The real meat is in the cool animations during battle as it’s always been. Strategy rpgs are always lower budget compared to its peers because strategy rpgs are niche. It’s why Disgaea is mostly told through character portraits.

I don’t understand how someone doesn’t like Mario or Zelda or any Nintendo property much less maintains that Nintendo games look low budget. Nintendo games always look smooth and aesthetically pleasing.

Sounds to me you focus too much on production values and fat rather than how a game plays. Then again, I can play and enjoy games from any time period. Even ones from the 1980’s before the crash.

Fulltime weebs reacted very poorly to game devs doing their job well. Apparently, Zelda devs should just play Zelda games?  :-*

Japanese have always taken western ideas and made them better so :yeshrug

You took my point of "everybody can learn from everybody/anyone" to "Nah, Japan does what they do....but better!"

>:(

Didn't you say like, a few days ago that WRPG's and JRPG's have traded places in quality and relevancy?  :lol

OH!

It's pretty easy to not care for Mario if your not into platformers either 2d and 3d. Played Mario 64 as kid and was bored by it compared to Goldeneye and things like Perfect Dark eventually.

Zelda games always come off ass long ass slogs with pretty whatever combat. Aimless and boring. Twilight Princess HD looked like literal shit on my tv. BoTW ran like crap and wow that awful and sparse voice acting. It's 2019 I'm not sure how Nintendo gets by with lacking actual voice acting and good sound mixing/quality. Even cheap Japanese games have better sound design and actual Dolby Digital, but Nintendo is too cheap to do that.

Great animation in Skyward Sword, but stilted cutsecnes when you don't have voice acting in a modern game. Either go all the way or don't. Also I don't know who's grand idea in BoTW was to have the awful breakable weapons. Make me less interested in combat, thanks.

My other problem with Nintendo is the awful fanbase who act like they are the end all be all to video gaming. Don't care for thier games? Well clearly something is wrong with you.

rahx the sony pony annihilated  :pimp
Haven't played my Playstation in months. Just Xbox and PC.

What other IPS are thier? Mario Kart? Not into racing games. Pikman? Uninterested. Smash? Splatoon? I don't even remember what my problems were, but an was the 2nd one unfun. The most obnoxious game with the most most obnoxious fanbase. Pokemon? Had my fill of that with Silver. I can't think of many of thier ips that would appeal to me. Beyond what Monolith and Platinum make and when they publish off brand stuff to appeal to people like me.

Yeah Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild looked cool, but the rest of thier games lack cool aesthetics that well look cool and are pretty unappealing to me. Usually look pretty safe and boring. Don't really get something like Persona 5, Devil May Cry 5, Capcom, Sqaure games, Rockstar stuff, in general from them.

Still loved the DS (but for 3rd parties) and the beginning of Wii, but WiiU was the worst thing I ever bought and Switch doesn't look any better. Zelda U was the first time in years they innovated again, but then it turned out to be a lame ass pseudo Ubisoft game. Modern Nintendo is worthless outside a few exceptions. Pretty sure Miyamoto is senile at this point. I'm surprised they didn't announce 2D rehash number one thousand this year though.
