I mean, I could further derail the thread the way you do by pointing out that I play (and am very good at) a fuck ton of limited mtg, which is arguably more skill intensive than everything you've played in the last 5 years combined and requires not just the use of strategy but adaptive tactics in order to be successful.

You seem to want the series to be a narrative, challenging dungeon crawler. That's not the development arc the genre is moving towards, but fortunately there are plenty of games like that.
