The guy probably thought she was a flake and decided to cut his losses.  I did the same thing many times when people cancelled on me but then wanted to keep IMing/texting.  There's a ton of people on online dating sites/apps who will never actually go on a date, they're just using the attention to get an ego boost.  The guy sounds like he's been around OLD to know that, hence why he didn't contact her after setting up the date.

Managed to avoid these "dating randoms" scenarios pretty much my entire life.   "When I was young" (dadsplain) having a social circle that parties was all you really needed to meet people.
