Here's another good point people don't consider when thinking about this virus and the potential to overwhelm hospitals:

Quote
“When our hospital systems are overwhelmed, that means if your are having a birth that you are planning, if you are in a car accident and need your hospital, if your have a stroke or an MI, even if you never get coronavirus, people in this country can die from something other than coronavirus,” said Acton.

Pictured : Not Donald Trump's physician

So this dude is Pr. Raoult, a mediatic and competent French microbiologist/infection expert, and he has become a bit of a meme for advocating like a motherfucker that chloroquin (used in some anti-Malaria medication ) might be a good treatment for COVID19. He's also a climate change skeptic, because I know that looking at him you already wondered if he isn't a Wank Dad.

He's not the only one to have think of Chloroquin, IIRC (China is also conducting tests with it) but he's over the moon about the results he got on a small sample of patients (a little over twenty, if I understand correctly) he supervised in Marseilles and claim that 75% of patients recovered in under a week (only 10% for those without). This sort of anti malaria medication is not advised for pregnant woman, can be toxic at high dosage and not everyone in the medical community is sold on it but apparently there will be wider tests.

Any treatment shortening the medical cycle would be a literal life saver...

Yeah.
There are a few that are running clinical studies.
I mentioned Remdesivir once, it was supposed to be against Ebola but didn't really work out.
Hardly any side effects and they can skip 2 phases that you would naturally have when working on both vaccine and medicine.

Hopefully those studies are gonna be effective and all those clinics will be able to control those situations alot better. Scaling the shutdowns and closures down will be another really important thing.
We'll see. We're supposed to get infos on Remdesivir in two weeks.

When you live in an allergy haven city and there's a pandemic and you don't know if you have allergies, the flu, or corona. :stahp

Then there's the fact allergies make your face itch and you're not supposed to touch your face.

It's like the worst time possible for this to be happening down here in the souf.

Today was surreal. It has sunk in that this thing won't last days or weeks but months or years and that our strategy of herd immunity is very bold without a vaccine.
I'm trying to motivate our employees the best I can and got heart warming calls from clients, vendors and partners who all praised my can do attitude and optimism that we will win this fight.

As always Dutch directness is prevailing over panic.

On the upside my 30 minute drive to the office took 12 minutes today.

There were stacks of toilet paper rolls in the supermarket this morning.

A sign said: limit of 2 packs per customer. But 1 pack holds like 18 rolls by default so if you strategically use it those 2 packs would last you until the end of the summer at least.

The experts were wrong, working with faulty models on risk and spread or they knew the governments wouldn't take them seriously if they told them millions would die.
Maybe everyone just assumed best case scenario's?

It's really dependent on the state, for example in my State:

https://www.channel3000.com/wisconsin-now-has-72-confirmed-coronavirus-cases-experts-seeing-evidence-of-community-spread/?fbclid=IwAR35nOcy57oRE1ZQo0flC_hdxbgNU-U63w7NCXgLxn7va8Jg0hnDyv-pGJw

Quote
Gov. Tony Evers is ordering a statewide moratorium on events with 10 or more people effective today at 5 p.m. Transportation, childcare, hotels, military and law enforcement, hospitals, food pantries, utility facilities, courts, job centers and long-term care facilities are exempt from the order.

Evers also said bars throughout the state will be closed at 5 p.m. today. Restaurants will only be able to provide food through take-out or delivery services.

“What we’re saying folks is as simple as this: stay home if you can,” said Evers.

Although the governor’s office expects residents to follow this new moratorium, Evers’ legal counsel said local police departments will be enforcing it. Penalties would be a $250 fine and/or imprisonment for 30 days.

Evers has also expanded the statewide school closure order until further notice. The order originally said until at least April 6.

Evers said he is asking the state legislature to immediately take up legislation to repeal the state’s one week waiting period for unemployment compensation insurance. He plans to issue an order on Wednesday that will ensure that people affected by the virus who are out of work can get benefits.

State of Emergency was declared last week, there's tons of precautions going to clinics or urgent care. We're at least trying here.

Also, I work in a grocery store and have type 1 diabetes. So I'm expecting shit to get funky for me.

Again, my understanding of it wasn't that they were just going to ignore all measures, only that they were only going to do them when it became necessary and at the right time when it is most effective. And they never actually said to do nothing. Only they didn't follow suit right away with shutting down schools or banning public events, etc.

If you don't already know by now, a lot of epidemiologists believe this may not go away in the summer. You have a highly contagious virus that is very difficult to contain. There is no vaccine to control it. Which is the idea behind getting some 'herd immunity'. A certain amount of tolerance to the virus in the population will potentially slow the spread right down. This idea didn't come from Boris Johnson.

Now it's too early really to know what will work best I suppose, but it is clear these ideas weren't just pulled out of someone's ass. lol

If you haven't already, watch this interview. You will have a better idea of the problems we now face.

Right but the issue is that if states ignore it, and if you are not going to shut down domestic travel, then its only going to slow the problem for so long.  It amounts to the same thing as one state doing gun control while its neighbors do not.

That's very true and a National lockdown on state to state travel would help immensely.
