Is this one of those contradictions of capitalism I keep hearing about
I guess most suffering being offshored, outta sight outta mind, has left people entirely caught off guard
The western world is not used to this.
Terrorist attacks are one off events that kill a few hundred at best.
Most diseases that kill people like flu, cancer and Alzheimers are well known.
Car crashes and other stuff that kills are 'accidents'.
Now we have a deadly virus roaming about that the scientists say can't be cured and can't be prevented while up to the end of January the WHO said that it wasn't very contagious.
We just have to be lucky and hope that the lowest projections are what's going to happen.
Governments the world over were caught by surprise by this thing and think they can hit pause for a few weeks and then return to normal.
I think that given how this has spread worldwide it's going to be one of those things that stays around for generations to come and eventually some sort of cure will be found.
The virus will probably lead to people not growing as old anymore as a 'new normal' for the next decade and Corona will be thing people test for like HIV.
