The guy who discovered that the Metacritic score was manipulated was actually the guy who did it.

Edit: Since this post is starting to get spread around (What baggage is saying is indeed the case.) because Uchikoshi himself linked the thread. I'd like to quickly note that this was not "done out of nowhere" like people are suggesting. It was specifically in response to the recent discourse of Warcraft 3 Reforged, becoming the "worst reviewed game on Metacritic". Which i found to be a bit ridiculous considering the countless cases of people similarly damaging review scores of perfectly good games (Reforged isn't even that bad of a remaster IMO, a lot of the "controversy" surrounding it is that they decided not to completely redo the cutscenes. Which they stated multiple times pre-release that they were scaling back on.)

The plan was to make a proper thread a few days after my tests were finished, demonstrating how you can easily turn any obscure game into one of the best or worst games of all time with just a few hours of work. Hence why i ended up archiving everything each step of the way. Anyone who's familiar with my previous threads (Or watched the Gamexplain video on Tomohiro Kawasae) knows i like doing investigative articles on Gaming, and this was going to be no different.

But Akira Okada ended up discovering that i had tanked the score for AI hours after i did it, and the whole story basically blew up from there.

On top of that, he did it because he has some weird obsession with a virtual youtuber and didn't like that the protagonist makes sex jokes

To reiterate my thoughts on the game from previous threads. I loved most of the A-set videos and found them to be incredibly endearing, even developing a massive crush on her due to my general attachment issues. But i hated the actual game for how it basically ignores everything said videos were trying to build up

the protagonist being a unlikable asshole who's sole character trait is "hehe funny sex joke" + basically spends 90% of the game completely abandoning his adoptive daughter, and the fact that i personally find the storyline it uses instead to be complete and utter nonsense filled with plot holes and ridiculous logic.

In the end B-Damagecontrol-Dubs swoops in and locks the thread

Again, my approach isn't for everybody. I don't even know if it's the right one for this forum. But it was highly effective.

I would recommend this, though - a moderator warning at the top of potentially contentious threads stating that it's being watched? Always a good idea. The ones who will complain loudest about discourse being affected negatively by such a warning never had any intention of interacting in good faith anyways - you can take that to the bank. Let them whine outside while grown folks talk.

Then the election happened and Trump won.  One of my ex-admins, bishoptl, got angry about election-related matters and actively sabotaged the forum. He logged his bans that were justifiable within the site rules, and generally gave people appropriate ban explanation messages in those cases.  However, he also banned several hundred more people in quick succession, out of anger, for *not being angry enough* about the election.  He didn't log these bans administratively, he generally told the users something along the lines of "fuck off" in the user-facing message, and he lied to me at every turn when I was mobilizing to find out what the hell was going on with Off-Topic that seemed to be depriving it of all maturity, reason, sense, and moderate opinion suddenly.  Finally I saw something suspicious enough play out that I checked the system logs, and everything revealed itself plainly.  We were descending into madness because all the sane people were being stealth banned en masse by bish.  I reviewed approximately 100 of the stealth bans one by one and reversed ~90% of them per the actual rules governing the site. But discourse here was already falling apart and our old platform sucked for communicating with users during mod actions, so people started account suiciding after I reversed the bans -- rightfully pissed off about the unjust nature of them.  It was all a mess and I focused on trying to be a voice of reason on GAF itself and get the mod team onto a more neutral page going forward instead of going through the remainder of the bish bans.
